Friggin' MORE COWBELL!!!
Hi folks...

This isn't *directly* related to flashlights, but I couldn't think of a better group to ask...

I'm trying to locate what appears to be some sort of (old?) flashlight bulb. It is the bulb used in the military MXU-163/P lighted pilot's clipboard. The base is threaded and (according to a friend that's seen it) is a "standard" base...whatever that means...

There are no markings for the type of bulb on it anywhere. This particular bulb is rated at 8v and 0.3 amps...the device runs on 3 AA batteries, so I suppose a bulb rated at 4.5v would be fine...probably would want to get one rated minimum 5v for increased tolerances.

The glass on the bulb itself it spherical -- not oblate. Does anyone have any idea so far of what I'm talking about?? The base is about 5/16" wide (about 7mm for our friends across the pond...

Any ideas? Anyone know of any websites that stock oddball(!) flashlight bulbs?

Thanks for any help...

p.s. What is the ETA on the Surefire board being back online? I ordered one of the prototype HA adapters and wanted to share my elation.

This should help you find the type:

Reflectalite

But they're located in Britian in case you wanted to order.

Thanks! Looks like they have bulbs that will work!

A friend also suggested another good idea -- he said I might want to think about ditching the bulbs in favor of some bright red LED's...the pilot's board is (of course) for use to illuminate charts at night. The light emitted at the moment is white (no filter over the diffuser) so red LED's would be a nifty upgrade...the batteries would last a lot longer too...

Maybe I'll post this in the LED forum and see what happens.

Thanks again! (I'll probably get another one of these boards to modify for LED's and keep the one I have for use with flashlight bulbs...)
