I'm in need of a small floody incan for cutting foot sign. Hotspots washout the sign, and LED's just don't make the sign stand out in 3D like incans do.

Output doesn't have to be extraordinary, but it would need to run at least an hour and use rechargeable cells. My Stinger is the closest thing I have to being ideal for output and size, but when set to flood, there is a considerable dark spot in the center.

Right now my only thought is to build a 2C ROP "low" with a MOP reflector. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. Price isn't much of an issue for the perfect setup.

Thx!

Get a Surefire G3 (or 9P if your prefer) and drop in a Lumens Factory ES-9 (or SR-9/HO-9/EO-9 if you want more output.) Power it with a pair of 17500s, and use a FM-34 beam diffuser. An ES-9 gives you a bit less output compared to a P90 lamp, but more throw and ~73 mins of runtime on a pair of 17500s. With the FM-34 in place you get a soft and very even flood light. You can flip the diffuser cover out get the nice throw that LF lamps provide.

EDIT:

Here's a 6Z with a SR-9 powered by a pair of RCR-123s:

If you want to build a rop I'd suggest a 2D, with 2 D li-ion cells that will give you more runtime than Cs...and another thing, all OP reflectors have a good side spill but a pretty good hotspot too...because you don't want it you'd better to get a HS reflector from litho123 that will give you much more flood with no HotSpot...

I'll second USM0083's suggestion. A G3 with diffuser is a nice setup. Add two 17500's from AW and a Lumens Factory ES-9 and you are in business.

One of the first posts I ever read on this forum was by about a 2C RoP "high" build, using 2 x AW C cells. I'll try to find it.

Ruined me for ever, btw.

My low-tech, almost-no-cost way of obtaining a nice, smooth flood-type beam, is WriteRight, "invisible" tape, or "clear" contact paper cut to fit over the lens. I believe there will be a slight light/lumen loss, but it's never been a problem for me. Easy enough to try it out on your existing light, and see if it would work for you.

A word of caution: I don't have the Stinger, but I think it has a plastic lens that may or may not be affected by the adhesive on the suggested films, especially if exposed to high heat for prolonged periods of time. So be careful and aware!
