A friend wants to convert an LED automotive third brake light to a more dynamic light. I would like it to work as a standard light bar, a sequential flasher for directionals and an attention grabbing light bar with a pulse type display lighting the LEDs from the center of the array out to the ends of the array and back. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

If this is a hobby project - I suggest some time on the web looking for sequential flasher circuits. There are lots of sites that might give you clues, but you'll have to put in some time to piece something together. It is a potentially fun digital logic project.
Another avenue is to program a microcontroller to do this.
If you have more $$ than time - there might be an expensive aftermarket solution.

While not the CHMSL (center high-mount brake light) I have these sequentials installed in my Chevrolet Caprice 9C1.
