So my friend has this old 4D Mag with the old switch retaining ring, and larger internal diameter than the new ones, so a heatsink would most likely not fit, too much space. The head also is not threaded all the way through, and the rim offset is slightly higher than the newer models (the ones with the D in front of the serial).
I was going to be modding a few of the MagLED 3D modules with SSC P4 leds, and was wondering if this could be used in a 4D? I know I could put a dummy cell in, but has anyone actually run a 3D in a 4D before? Just wondering if it would be ok to do, I know heat is an issue, but other than that would it work?
Any other suggestions for those who have done mods on these older mags? Also cost is a factor, I would like to keep it to a single LED, normally I would just do a DHS heatsink-SSC P4 w/AMC7135 driver, but the older mag is basically looking like a bulb type drop-in would be the easiest and cheapest, which is why I would like to take the existing MagLED 3D module and run it.
