hey guys i want to change the power led on my pc.... i have this motherboard
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00496280&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1817035

and when i opened the case i saw where the led goes... its a green and black wire with a small led (3mm maybe) at the end thats not soldered or anything just going thru plastic clips... very easy to replace... my question is which type of led can i replace it with and how many volts or w/e is this led.. could i replace it with a led thats 5mm or anyone of those that u get from like radio with a flashlite or something.. or a cd drive thing.... or will i have to buy another one???

:anyone: gonna help me out... im not familiar with leds and all dat stuff...

If you have a volt/amp meter then find out what the voltage is that is driving the LED you already have. If you do net get one. The cheap ones are under $10 and you will most likely get your use of it. If the voltage is around 3.4 then just connect another LED and see how it goes. Use the meter get an idea how much current the new LED is drawing. Try to keep the new LED draw around 20 ma. If you have 5V then get like an 50 ohm resister and use that to connect the LED to the motherboard.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Any LED will work. MOBO (Mother Board) has current limiting resistors already so you are safe with whatever LED, just dont connect more than one LED inn paralel.
Regards

I did my pc with blue and white leds some 5 years ago (4 years before I found out what CPF was ;))

ok i replaced it with a bright led and nothing happend the led wouldnt light up.... this led is from a small radio that uses the led as flashlight and i tested it with a battery and it works.... one question how come it works both sides like it doesnt where u put the plus or minus wire on the battery it turns on?

What? Ask again?
Led needs to be connected correctly , if not you already burn out the led.

If the led you put in don't light up, when powering up the pc, switch/reverse the connection. Just unplug the power leads on the mother board and twist it around and push it in. That should make it work.

i did switch it both times inside the pc but it wouldnt light up.... that same led works on a battery no matter how its connected... minus to plus or plus to plus... u know what i mean....

Okay.....
This may means that the led that you are trying to put in is different some how.
I would just go to a pc supply store such as fry's and pick one up for very cheap price. Which should already have connections made up. All you do is plug it in.
Good luck.
