I am new to this board and love it.

I am looking for a small LED for EDC and LEO work. I am just looking to try something new and not looking to spend an whole lot of money to start with. I have not owned a LED before and I'm not sure how useful I will find it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Brent,

Sometimes satisfaction comes at a price. I didn't consider LED for EDC (for investigating buildings not in criminal proceedings) until the SF L4 came out. Now the incandescents are banished to my shoulder bag.

Probably more than you want to spend, but a wonderful light.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi and welcome to the most illuminating forum going,if the EDC light is for close up work like paper work one of the one watt LED lights will work excellently. One example is the ARC LS series of lights they have an optional tail piece that utilizes 2 AA batteries which are available almost anywhere. For lighting up the inside of a car for threats would require a 5 watt LED Unit Like the surefire L4,L5,L6,the only possible problem is the availability of 123 cells for them . 123 batt are much cheaper on line.LEDs are much less prone to failure than incandescent lamps. The best of the really inexpensive LED lights has to be the DORCY 1AAA light it runs $6 USD.The ARCs run from $14 to $150 currently. The surefires range from $55 to you have to be kidding. I am sure there will be other suggestions made, just hang your hat and have a seat by the fire and enjoy the company.

Welcome
I would suggest one of the VITAL-GEAR KL1 FLASHLIGHT BODY 123 SUREFIRE KL1 LED MODULE BODY with the KL1 head from here http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme%20gear/flashlights%20main/vitalgear_fb123.htm .
It's not too expensive and a pretty good LED light for the price.
Or if ARC still has their foot in the door special going on, it would be a great light for the price as wel
Just my opinion /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, I started with a sandwich from Wayne's sandwich shop.
You get lots of light out of a MiniMag and it gives you the ability to determine if you want to spend more. Now they aren't exactly cheap at ~ $40, but you would know whether or not you wanted to spend more on the sturdier/better looking lights. This is just a drop in arrangement that goes in the minimag body. You would have to get some help to select the best module and led type/bin.
The only other one I can think of is the M6 Led, but I haven't seen a review yet (estimated street price ~$50). Actually, I'm not sure its in the wild yet....
