How can you look at a Jetbeam c-le and tell if it has the hidden mode for 3.7v?

Go to the SOS mode, stop it, wait 2 seconds, put it back on. You should see your light kickly fade to off, then it will give a quick and dim flash every 4-5 seconds. That's it, your in the hidden mode.

How come it is called the "hidden mode"? It seems to me it's in the "find-me mode" by giving off a beacon.

(This is a rhetorical question)

Some of the c-le's share the same electronics as the MKII. These are identified with the so called "hidden mode". The light was not designed for 3.7v as several users have discovered, nor was it ever advertised as being usable at anything other than 1.2 to 1.5. Your mileage may vary.

Why do people keep saying this? I has one more mode than advertised. The MKIIx has a whole bunch of additional modes over the C-LE, so they are obviously not 'the same'.

Ah jeez, maybe I just need a cup of coffee..

:lolsign: Ok, let's call it the "hidden-find-me-mode" !

Whats the Recommendation of using the 14500 in the C-LE will it cause any harm to the LED who is running them without any problems!!!

:grin2:

No official specs have stated that you can use 14500's only 1.2's and 1.5's have been stated as ok, so putting a 3.7v li-ion in there would probably kill it after a few mins usage.

I have a 3.7 14500 permanently in one of mine. So far, no prob but I don't use high for more than a few minutes at a time and I have 2 Jetbeams to experiment with! For longer usage, you would need to do a heatsink mod - do a search on this topic for the details.

I've heard this before, but what's the point in it? If you can basically only use it on low and med with 14500s, why not just leave it alone with AA, without the risk, and use it on high with 80 lumens (although it seems slightly less in real output terms).

Chances are the LED will be fine, 3.7 Volts in normal Vf of LED's but the circuit may not like it.

??? Are you recommending the use of a 3.7 Volt Li-ion battery in the Jetbeam C-LE? That's simply irresponsible! Jetbeam recommends 1.2-1.5v and there have been numerous posts of users who have "fried" their C-LEs by using the 3.7v battery.

The advantage is that the high (can't remember but prob ard 140 lumens on 14500?) is there when you really need it. The majority of the time, I just use the medium which doesn't really heat up the light.

The led would be fine and you would be correct if there was an adequate heatsink. Unfortunately, the stock heatsink is prob not up to the task hence a mod may be nec for prolonged use on a 14500 in high mode.
