took 3 9v batts and piggybacked them

connected negative to a big socket, dunked in a coffee cup of coke
took the positive and gripped a thrunite tikey

dunk-a-roo. connected a 4th batt, dunked again

anodized. as a test and my first go at anodizing, I am happy anything occurred at all 😀
so then I played with a flat satin gray 4Sevens mini 123...and got crazy, controllable results

now to experiment with more batts...and sponge-brushing for drawing anodized patterns

voltage determines the color

I have the most basic setup. dc volts, some wires, and coke. this limits what I can do
but if you have a professional variable DC source, titanium clips and rods to hold items,
and various better chemicals than coke, you can do ti anodizing.

I don't plan on doing much more than just goof off with coke, but I will try different multiples of 9 volts (gotta go buy a 10 pack)
and see what colors I can get. I have to polish the anodizing off my test items each try because once you put on the
oxidation layer it isn't as easy as dipping it again to go for a different color

anyhow I got dark blue on 3, and lighter aqua blue on 4, and redipping that blue into 3 batts produced a bronze-tinge

the only problem with coke is, it is not clear so it is hard to know what tint you are applying.

but it is all I had at the time

This is....interesting. Mind sharing a diagram of how it all connects up? Why does the coke work? I don't know anything about anodizing but I thought you needed some pretty strong chemicals.

Might do some Googling I think.

Here is a flat satin 4Sevens Ti Quark Mini 123...now rainbow satin

I lined up more batts, and gave it the cola dunk 10 minutes ago

boy did that cause the flat soda to fizz, and I slowly drew this out, flipped it over,
took off half the batteries, and dunked it again

looks better IRL

only ti can be colored this simply

I believe you need some serious amps and chemicals to anodize alu

no need for big amps for Ti, only volts.

still experimenting

I took the 4sevens and redunked it for 15 minutes and 11 batteries, and it recolored
itself wildly...I like it better now

then I was playing with the Thrunite TiKey to see what else I could do:

redunking did nothing, it was sealed up
I sanded it down a bit, redunked, it recolored

I added a pinch of salt to the water, the batteries got angry and
got really warm. I then arced the tikey onto the cathode and it
took chunks off the titanium and started serious corrosion of the TiKey on many spots

then I cleaned all that out and went back to straight coke. Now the eroded spots are
going rainbow colored while the rest of the key is bronze.

I have more experiments to do tonight. I am destroying the TiKey though...so I am glad I only paid 10 bucks for it

do NOT touch the ti to the cathode unless you want to turn the titanium to vapor !

Good info, thanks for sharing.
Here is a link to a thread in the McGizmo forum with a bunch of good info.

Well, I was going to post the link but for some reason I cannot paste in the "link" field or in the post field?!? (right click has no effect, wierd!)
But if you search the McGizmo forum for "anodizing titanium" it will come right up since that is the name of the thread!

Edit:
Here it is! Tried with a different browser, bingo!
