How come you never see a firestarter in a swiss army or multitool knife?

I am surprised especially for a SAK knife, that with all the tools that they come with (some are useless) that none of them have a fire starter.

I am also surprised that the aftermarket has not come up with a firestarter steel that could replace the toothpick or tweezers in the SAK.

Is it just me or do others want the same thing?

I never considered that before.

How about this? It has one.

I've wondered the same thing quite a few times... I can see that there would be some challanges, but I'm still surprised no one has tried very hard:( I'd like to see some of the major brands take a stab at it though...

Very good ?, I carry a Spirit and would be able to use it in my backwoods excursions. I know lighters are small and don't take up much space; but that's the point of a single multitool.

the problem with replacing the toothpick or tweezers is that the space made available by removing these tools is so small. the fire lighter would wear down verry quickly.
the problem with putting it elsewhere is that it has to be removable, or there must be a removable striker, in order for the fire lighter to be used.

out of interest, i have handled one of tool logic's knives, and it seemed to be perfectly comfortable, and very sharp!

Check sosak at knifeforums, pretty sure there was one made by a modder, not in place of toothpick, but in place of an actual tool.

And multitool is a compromise to begin with, you can't realistically expect it to have everything and do everything.

I'd think with the removable driver bits now available on some Leatherman tools that it might be possible for them to create a larger removable fire starter / sparker.

The magnifying glass on some of the high end SAKs could potentially start a fire... with the right amount of sunlight in the daytime.

All any company needs to do is put a pocket on the carrying case that would hold a decent sized flint rod. Something along the diameter of a the Swedish Fire Steel Scout. A blade from the multitool could be used as a striker. Many tools already have pockets for swapping out saw and files, etc why not a flint steel?

yes we sure have that in swiss and work on other sutch possible models:

I just saw a small classic sak looking thing in 3 varieties, one had a removable flint and the other had a removable striking rod (permanent match)

just checked my history and can't find it, looked cool though.
