How do I get a Surefire bulb to work in a Maxfire?

I purchased a Surefire bulb to test it in my Brinkman Maxfire LX just to try it out, but it doesn't seem to make contact. Is there some trick to this? Do I have to remove the spring or...? I'm interested in experiencing the Surefire beam quality in my Maxfire. I would greatly appreciate the input of those who have done this.

Thanks,
Ken

It might help if you posted what kind of bulb you are talking about. A P60/P61 should just drop in after you take out the bulb holder and reflector.

Did you test the SF bulb in another light to make suer it works.

No, I didn't test the bulb it was purchased "new" off of ebay. That may be the problem though. It is a P60. As far as I know, that form factor is the only one that will fit in the Maxfire.

Thanks,
Ken

The P60 and P61 lamp assemblies should work. I tested dropping a P60 into my Maxfire LX and it works just fine as a drop-in replacement after I removed the bulb holder and reflector. Here is what I did:

(1) "Raw materials":

(2) Remove bezel from Maxfire LX:

(3) Remove lamp from Maxfire LX:

(4) Remove reflector from Maxfire LX bezel:

(5) Extract P60 lamp assembly from my G2-OD:

(6) Drop in P60 into Maxfire LX:

(7) Re-assemble Maxfire LX:

(8) Test the lamp:

Hope this helps.

Re: How do I get a Surefire bulb to work in a Maxf

Thanks for the great pics. I did the same, and I get no light at all. I guess that means I have a bab bulb. I really want to use the Maxfire as a Surefire host, because it has a glass lens and a clicky switch. Maybe I'll try it again with a dif LA.

Thanks again,
Ken

If you have access to a multimeter you can test the continuity between the two terminals of the Lamp Assembly and use that to determine if you have a bad LA or if it is something else.
