How do you store your batteries? (AA/AAA)

Now that I'm getting my batteries all together and arranged by capacity, I'm wondering how you store them? I have both AA and AAA and would like to have something that would keep them organized in one place but also be able to group them by category. It would be ideal if it had some place to put batteries that needed to be recharged, too.

I see some plastic AA/AAA cases on eBay that hold 4 cells each. I saw one auction where I can get 20 of the cases shipped for $17.

What do you use, and how does it work? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Welcome to CPF fellow Cannuck!

I just use a little plastic 4 drawer organizer. In one drawer I have my chargers. The next has fully charged batteries. The next one has discharged batteries and the last one has my various diffusers. Its not the most organized since I have AA's and AAA's in the same drawer as RCR's but as long as I have the charged separated from the discharged I don't really mind. I do keep the ones to use next at the front of the drawer and after I charge a battery I put it behind the ones already in the charged battery drawer.

Here's how I store my Alkaline, Llithium, and rechargeable AA & AAA cells:

Thank you fellow Canucks!

Those are some great ideas. I really like the Stanley case - that would work out well and keep them separated by charge capacity and also give room to toss the dead cells into.

I'll check it out next time I'm by Home Depot!

Have a good weekend! :D

 I store my extra cells in extra flashlights... :)

That's where I'm headed, also. I just ordered a Dorcy 1xAAA and I have about 6 more 1xAAA and 1xAA lights lined up in my order from DX.. Just gotta 'pull the trigger'. :ohgeez:

I have a bunch of older AA and AAA regular NiMH that are almost all below their 80% mark, so I don't care at all if I lose some due to over-discharge.. I'll just replace them with LSD cells when I run low enough.

I try to use FIFO boxes -- First In, First Out. I either drill or die cut appropriately sized holes in medium-to-high density foam and glue it into whatever sized plastic box will fit the number of cells I'm working with.

It's cheap and easy. It turns out that it's also a great solution if you're maintaining the cells but there are others returning discharged cells and picking up fresh ones. It's so simple. I just tell them to always take the next charged cell in the direction the arrows point and to put the used one button up at the end of the line. Then when I notice a cell 'button up' I just charge it and return it to the same hole 'button down'

It's an easy way to keep everyone on the same page.

It works nicely with LSD cells.

I store my batteries in a large fish tackle box that has removable dividers and up to 24 separate spaces. Each space holds 12 AAs or about 20 AAAs. I think it was around $4. The brand of the box is Plano. When I take batteries on a trip, I have battery carriers that hold 4AAs or 4AAAs and some that hold 2AAs or 3 AAAs. They are from Fry's electronics. The bigger ones are about a buck and the smaller ones were 59 cents. Thomas Distributing has slightly better smaller ones (2AA/3AAA) and often gives some free when you buy rechargeable batteries from them.

I use an Altoids tin lined with thin foam. It will hold 6 aa cells and fit in your shirt pocket. Plus you get to eat the yummy mints :D. Not a bad deal for 2 bucks.

Mines like Black Rose......This is the best way i know off, especially if you have a lot of batts. I keep my rechargeables in a seperate case.

SEARCH works: Nice Battery Organizer-Cheap! ;)

I like the Plano boxes with adjustable dividers (I have 2) and I also have 3 older Sears boxes (smaller - 6 fixed rectangular bins that hold 8 AAs each - couldn't find them online). But I REALLY like the new 'Powerex Four 4 Cell Battery Holder Cases' I just got from Thomas-Distributing: Thomas-Distributing: Save $3.00 on Shipping - Details. When I ordered my MH-C9000 (and a few batteries  ), I 'traded' ~$9.00 worth of shipping for 12 cases. I'm using them now to GROUP similar capacity OLDER cells for 'Break-In' and 'Refresh & Analyze' purposes. (i.e. the PILES are lining up next to the MH-C9000!).

To group by similar capacity on the older Sears and Plano boxes, I had color-coded dots over groups of bins:
  • GREEN..: >= 95%
  • ORANGE: 85-94.999%
  • YELLOW: 75-84.999%
  • RED......: <75%

Yes it does.

Now if only Walgreens operated in Canada :D

Search. Hmmmm, told you I was a noob. Thanks Black Rose and Take The Active! Yes, no Walgreens here, unfortunately. No Radio Shack, Olive Garden or Kmart, either. But, we do have Canadian Tire and Tim Horton's!!!
