How does GE 788 compare to WA 1111

With the recent discontinuation of the WA 1160 along with the other WA bulbs, I'm now left looking for simple MagCharger hotwire long-term solutions.

I don't know what type of microscope or other equipment the WA 1185 might be used in, but I'm now somewhat apprehensive about it's long term survival as well as that of many other WA bulbs not yet on the hit list. Seems to me that the last bulbs that WA or anyone else are going to get rid of will be the 6.0 volt models.

I don't like the large current draw, short runtime, and reamed relector required of the 30 watt 5761, so it's not an option for me. Of all the 20 watt models available, only the GE 788 and WA 1111 have the narrow T2.25 envelope that fits thru the stock reflector. There's hardly any info on CPF about the 788. It's spec'd at 402 lumens and 100 hours life, whereas the 1111 is spec'd at 465 lumens and 100 hours life; but do all manufacturers rate bulbs the same way? Is there anyone out there who has compared both bulbs?

Here are my questions.

-running at 6.0 volts from the ni-cad pack, which bulb will have more output, and which will be whiter?

-will either bulb at 6.0 volts be as white as the stock MC bulb?

-running at 7.2 volts, which bulb will have more output, and which will be whiter?

-am I the only one who thinks that everyone will need a Fivemega 37mm MC extender in the near future

Howecollc, for some reason your avatar reminds me of a guy on the chainsaw forums but maybe I'm imagining things. Anyhow, I finally remembered to mention it. :)

All of the specs seem to be identical with the exception of the specified lumens. I don't know anything about the 788 but going from the picture it appears to have a more largely wound filament, coil size and fewer coils across. My initial impression is that the filament strand is slightly larger in diameter but it's hard to tell. They appear to use the same amount of amps as well. I'd personally stick with the 1111 since everything else appears to be equal.

There's a chainsaw forum? Kick-a$$

The GEs can be bought from so many places vs. the few channels thru which WAs are available.

Yeah, Aborist site. It's a pretty fun place :)

The issue of availability is a valid consideration, no doubt. Maybe you should be the guy to make the 788 popular.

I've got an old Clinton Engines Chief Fast-cut 25" chainsaw that was my grandfather's. I last cut with it 2 years ago, so it still works; just too big. Desirable saw or just average?

I may get a 788 to play with, but I suppose for now, I'll just hoard 1160s like everyone else. Problem with hoarding is something better comes along; like when I bought a bunch of pre-2002 30,000 candlepower MagCharger bulbs on sale, only for them to be made obselete by the whiter color and tighter spot of the 40,000 CP model.
