Well, I`m now officially the proud owner of two rechargable options for my M6-YAY! And since I`m very enthusiastic about it, I just wanted to share! :) Heres my little story....... :

I`ve always wanted a rechargeable option for my M6, ever since I`ve bought it about 2 years ago. When I`ve heard about AWR`s project, I jumped onboard and paid for a set - $120 down the drain.

Since that I would occasionally check for new possible options on CPF, but none of them really appealed to me. I guess I didn`t like the idea of using anything else than SF lamp assemblies. I had an MN20 fail me, which resulted in returning my Turbohead and getting a replacement from SF. I think that made me a bit cautious in terms of trying out new bulbs-I did not want to go through that hassle again.

Then, just a few weeks ago I`ve stumbled upon OddMods 2x18650 battery holder and finally decided that I should go ans give it a try. That being said, I went ahead and ordered one of the battery holders, two LF lamp assemblies as well as a couple of AW cells.

Fast forward to last saturday, when all of the parts were finally in. I went ahead set up everything, and what can I say - I was totally impressed and very happy to finally have "guilt free lumen" setups! :twothumbs

These are the two setups : an LF EO-M3T with 2x18650`s as well as an LF HO-M6R on 6x CR123Rs. They are probably very simple setups, but for me it was a big step. ;)

So yeah, thanks to OddMods for making the battery holder.
Thanks also to Lighthound for another smooth and fast transaction as well as to LumensFactory for catering us with lamp assemblies to play with! :D

Thanks for reading my ramblings,
Nick

I love MN-size lamp assemblies too!

I have a Surefire C2 with a KT2 Turbohead and 2x IMR16340 running a Surefire MN16 lamp assembly.

It's tiny and powerful.

...but everytime I see the M6 something in my heart screams "BUY IT!"

This website is the ultimate way of making money disappear.

Nick,

Congratulations!

  1. HO-M6R can also be used with six AW protected RCR123s as well (or does CR123R mean rechargeable? Sorry if I may have mis-read your message). HO-M6R is one of the most versatile bulbs. I just got an "item available" email from Lighthound.
  2. 2x18650 can be used with MN20, the OEM bulb for M6. I just tested it on my Millennium old light last weekend.
  3. WA1111 is also great when powered by 2x18650.

Hi Clarence.

Yep, I meant 6 rechargable CR123. ;) Thats what I`m using with the HO-M6R. Pretty nice setup, albeit the runtime is only about 30 mins according to LF. Still not bad though! :)

As for using the MN20 with the 2x18650-yes I`ve noticed that this is an option. However, by now I´ve had two MN20`s fail me (prematurely), and I`m just very hesistant to use this bulb. I just don`t trust their quality anymore. I don`t want to mess up my turbohead again! ;)

You know that there is just one solution to your "problem"........BUY IT! ;)

The MN20 had an issue for awhile, many of them were exploding and causing a lot of tuboheads to be sent back to SF for repair/replacement. As I understand, the latest MN20's have been revised to resolve this issue.

Having said that, the EO-M3T is a better alternative to a MN20 in a 2x18650 configuration. It's brighter and has a nicer beam profile from everything I have read about this lamp.

Is there any way to differentiate the good MN20 from the exploding ones? I think I have a handful of them and now I feel hesitant to use them. Tried two of them and ok so far. :candle:
Earlier this evening, I took a quick walk outside to exercise the batteries with an HO-M3T and an MN15 bulbs. I think the center-spot intensity are very close but the HO-M3T did have a bit more useful spills.

I emailed SF about this, and they claim there is no problem with the older bulbs. So that means they will still warranty them if they explode (on 6xCR123s, of course ;)).

If you check the treads of note, you find:

The older bulb is a better, whiter bulb, it it just may blow up if you are unlucky :D

BSBG,

Cheers to BSBG! :twothumbs Just added another bookmark to my CPF threads collection. My problem is that I put them all together and not sure which one is old versus new stock. Oh well, I did have experiences already in ruining bulbs.

On the other hand, due to lack of experiences, I do delegate my stock of MN20s as part of the emergency kit which is primarily ran on primaries. Need to re-strategize a little bit, I guess.

Of course, I NEVER intend to actually face a real situation to have to use the emergency kit. Yet, my home state is really far from the safest in the union.
