Made this thread just for fun. I just started my flashlight collection and i'm ONLY buying flashlights that uses AA BATTERIES because I don't wanna bother buying CR123A bats. I have an Inova X1, Maglite 3W 2AA LED, UltraFire 3W Lux WF601A and ordered Fenix L2D CE which still hasn't arrived yet....
Any of you out there like me who only buys AA BATS FLASHLIGHTS??? LOL

I do. AA are cheap, available everywhere, Eneloops are perfect for flashlights.
...
So, waiting for Rexlight 2.0 with 1 and 2 AA and thinking of MiniStar5 SSC P4 U for M*G 3D + moving to 4x2 AA

Not just flashlights; GPS, travel clock, IR remotes, cellular backup charger, lantern, they all work off one battery standard (AA).

AA rocks, I've got an L1D CE, Minimag (modded) and intend to add a few more AA.

I wasn't a big fan of AAA, but the tiny bright Fenix LOP's and my PT EOS all take AAA, so now I've learned to like them.

If they could make something like an EOS that took 1 AA, I would love it forever. Maybe someday.

That and Eneloops are finally here! Took long enough to get a low discharge rechargable...

I agree, ever since I started using Titanium NiMH batteries I try to get AA devices whenever possible.

Take Care,

i prefer them, those photo type batteries are nice, have lotsa power for thier weight and size. but now you can even get the "common" sizes in the lithium, or even rechargable li-ion.
they say size isnt every thing, but girth still counts :) AA size fits in pocket well.

I only use AA / AAA batteries. Mostly NiMH rechargeables.

Last prices I have seen for CR123 and CR20 batteries in my country are 6.60 euros (about 8$ each one).

Yes, AA and AAA, rechargeable. Same goes for digicams.
Just like memory cards, CF or SD only.
That means I'll never buy a Sony light (if they ever plan to make some ;))

I typically only buy either AA powered or rechargable lights. My collection it pretty small compared to most on here but I don't have a need for a tiny CR123 light. However I do have 20 18650 cells salvaged from laptop battery packs laying around, so I might put them to use soon.

I limited myself to a TLE-5 minimag, L1P, L2P, and Arc-AAA all because I wanted to use standard size batteries.

Now I seem to have realized the lights I've been missing out on, and how easy it is to get cheap batts in unusual sizes. I've now ordered a Surefire G2, Orb Raw NS, and am waiting on the Surefire Cree line.

Well, until Crees came along there was pretty much no way a single AA light could touch a CR123 light for output. It's a different story now with the likes of Fenix L1D-CE able to crank out 70+lm off a single NiMH.

However, until HDS can come up with a 1xAA EDC, my favourite torch will still be a CR123.

AA all the way for me also, available everywhere.

AAA just don't hold enuf juice... C are kinda OK for some things. Other kinds just aren't as "available".

AA NiMH for the computer mouse etc. They just don't seem to have the shelf life for flashlight use tho. They self-discharge too fast and run out of power too suddenly with no reserve. For rechargeable cells go for Radio Shack cells or good hobby shop cells only. A good quick charger that conditions the cells and will keep them topped off in the charger is a must. Simple cheapo chargers are absolute junk and will destroy your cells.

I am very big fan of AA lights. So far I have:

SL Propolymer
Rock River 1xAA
Inova X1

I am currently looking at a NexTorch model that allows for an AA conversion.

It additionally has the large benefit of beeing able to take several flashlights on a camping / hiking trip and only have to stack one type of spare batteries. Additionally AA give me the possiblity to switch between rechargables and Li if the temperatures gets too low.

DealExtreme has restocked the cheaper ($19.99) AA-Cree. I had been trying to get it for last few weeks. It does NOT take 14450 i.e. limited to ~ 1.5V but for the price, you can't find a better deal. Now the 2weeks wait start.

I am still waiting for RexLight 2.0 but Kaidomain has not yet updated his website.
