How much light does the Newbeam put out?

Comparred to the Infinity Ultra. Since it's 3 leds instead of 1, is it fair to say the Newbeams 3 times brighter?

By eye, it's about twice as bright... By lux, I'm getting 25 Lux on my Ultra and 45 Lux on my Opalec... Both with relatively fresh NiMH batteries...
 
I would back up that the Opalec is about twice the brightness of an Ultra. It does light up a slightly larger area also. The Ultra is driving the single LED a bit harder then the Opalec is. The Opalec is one of the few lights that don’t overdrive their LED, thus getting more lumens per watt, or longer runtimes. I should add that the regular infinity is one of the other that isn’t overdriven at all.
 
What amazes me, believe it or not, is how close the lux readings from Falcon and on the FlashlightReviews.com site are.

Statistically the differences are essentially nonexistant. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This makes the readings by both Choua (Falcon) and Doug P (FlashlightReviews.com) even more trusted (and goes to show their accuracy, especially given the variability inherant in actual LED output!).

I actually just whipped out my Meterman for a quick test last night when Raven posted asking for some input... Never really had any solid numbers on both guys until last night's quick readings... To be honest, I though the Opalec would've been a little brighter than 2x...
 
Ok thanks for the info. I was going to get one as long as it was at least twice as bright.

I had planned on using my Infinity for all my used aa batteries, but it won't use them up fast enough, so I thought a Newbeam might be the answer to my problem.

Speaking of how much light the Newbeam it puts out, the owner of Opalec is sending me a new module with updated LEDs. Apparently they've been silently revising the module and are using the brighter LEDs now. I don't know if there have been any other changes, but I'll let you all know! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
 
Well, if the leds are drive a little harder, you could probably see maybe double the output of what it is now...
