and what is ya vehicle ?i have a 2023 honda rebel 500cc i change it like every 4 thosand miles book sales do it at 8000 and to change oil filter every 16000 . but i want it to last a long time. ps it cost me 50 bucks to change its oil and thats doing it my self .. useing mobile 1

Every 8,000 miles with full synthetic for my vehicles, per the owner's manual. For my 450cc Polaris, maybe every other year, I just don't put enough off road miles on it to change it anymore often.

When the owners manual says X miles or X months take heed to the X months part. If it says every 6 months for example and it's a rarely driven vehicle or one for short trips only think about how often the engine heats and cools.

Condensation can cause issues so if it takes say, 8 months to reach the X miles (say 5,000) and the manual says change at 5,000 or every 6 months use the 6 month rule.

I have a neighbor who drives to the grocery store a few times a month. The truck gets maybe 500 miles a year on it but the engine heats and cools fairly regularly. The motor oil gets changed twice a year.

One way to know if condensation is an issue it to look inside the oil filler cap. Water mixed with oil inside the crank case will show on the filler cap. Milky white dots means you should change oil more often. Yellowish milky dots means coolant is leaking into the oil.

About every 5000 miles. Once our vehicles hit 50000 miles we switch to a synthetic blend and to full synthetic at 70000. It's worked for us.

how often do you change ya vehicle oil

Engine oil -- twice annually @ max 5,000 miles. (Full synthetic.)
Differential, Transfer Case, and Transmission fluid/filter --
every ~50,000 miles
Coolant -- every ~75,000 miles

Along with decent-quality gasoline, a tankful of Techroline once or twice annually, and keeping up with periodic maintenance. A bit more aggressive than the owners manual calls for, but with the drive train I prefer to keep ahead of things. Have done it this way for nearly 50 years. Seems to be working.

Helps to keep the car running like "a top."

My brother-in-law had a German suv,, he was religious about all the scheduled maintenance.
Mobil1 came in it from the factory & that's what was put in it at the dealership every 15,000 miles, no sooner
>as per manufacture schedule<

That AWD V8 suv had 1/3 million miles on it before he finally traded it in.

I have a 5th gen Camaro that got driven nearly 60 miles/day every day to work. I no longer drive it daily. However, I change the oil every 10k. If it sits after short drives, I change it twice a year. Short drives are hard on seals, gaskets and soft metals. Fuel and gases accumulate in the oil along with moisture and oxidize/corrode them. I do my best to not let it set for long and at least once a month take it on a long drive over the hills and into the desert. ...just to stretch her legs.

Even if you do it yourself, oil changes aren't cheap (2 gallons of synth for diesel +filter) but much cheaper than engine work.

@bluflaam777, Welcome to CPF. 👋

Daily; with the way it leaks & burns it
Dad's old 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was like that.
He bought it in 1982 from a businessman acquaintance who HAD to drive a new car every year. But this was back before leasing existed. Dad loved GM cars, thought they were perfect.... so he did zero preventative maintenance on it. Seriously, by the time I was old enough to drive it, I thought cars consumed oil the very same way they consumed gasoline. The poor thing somehow lasted 17 years.

One night, it broke down on me at the bottom of the expressway ramp over by Shea Stadium. Couple of guys stopped to help. I used their cellphone. Oh, that was not a fun family night, as I called out my dad for his disgusting cheapness. Especially since he worked for the city as a machinist and made very good money. Dad wanted to put a re-built engine in it. Mom finally put her foot down. Few days later, we had a used 1992 Mercury Sable sedan in her name, parked outside our home.

My current vehicle is 17 years old. Lots of preventative maintenance. She runs almost as good as she did when I bought her brand new.

my honda rebel morocycle is so good k never even check her oil. never had tto add any well it was a few ounce's low last week so i just changed oil. but it isnsnt easy to chek oil on a motorcycle but its way easier since i added a center stand

I change the engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles in our vehicles. That is per the owner's manual as well as when the OLM (Oil Life Monitor) message says to. I use synthetic oil in all of them as well.

Miles don't matter, engine hours hurt more. You can be in big city and all week drive 120 miles, but that could take you 6 hours. On the highway it only takes 3 hours.

Change the oil when it gets dirty, most filters are 25 micron, but the microparticles left behind are the things that wear away the rubber seals and soft metals. I do 8000 mile changes 95% on highway. My diesel vehicles go about the same, soot will kill seals. I would rather change oil 4 extra times than have to change a rear main seal.

Not to jinx it, but in all my 31 years of driving I never had a main or cam seal go on me. And I drive lots, easily 40k miles a year and many years it was worse
