how to Direct drive 3 Lux III's

OK i have a 4 D cell Mag i want to use and a buncha loose lux 3 emitters. what battery config can i use to Direct drive all 3 in series? (possibly 4 luxes)
(luxes are SX1J binned)

All i have are AA's and D cell NiMh batteries.

Seems like a tall order..........

Assuming you want about 10v for 3 J bins in series - you want 8 NiMh cells - 9 AA cells might be OK at a push with rested cells.

But you'll still have a lot of wasted cell space in a 4D.
Brightness will drop off quickly and overall runtime wont be great.


Best bet....Get a boost circuit and throw in 4 good quality NiMh D cells.

I just built a 3D using the perfect tri sink, but I used RW0H Lux Is for better runtime. Without really thinking about it, I wired it up in series as shown on the Minetrois and Quadamire instructions at the Sandwich Shoppe and nothing happened of course. Then I realized it was dividing that 3.6-4.5V among all three stars and nothing was going to happen. So I re-wired the stars in parallel.

With the three RW0Hs and fresh Energizer D cells, I measure 1.12A so each star is seeing about 375ma which is just slightly overdriving them.

Very pleased with the results.

You could either do something similar or just go with a regulation circuit.

IMO, it's probably more practical to wire them in parallel with 3 D's or C's.

I'll probably go with the 3 D's. is this in parallel or series?

use a dummy cell, IE: chunk of copper tubing

now how can i run 4 or possibly 6 lux 3's? I'm thinking a floodlight....

again same Mag body.
