How to disassemble a 4D Maglite.......yawn..I know

OK apologies, but I finally decide to try and do something useful with my old Mag4D. I am looking at either an MR16 or a 5W LuxV with Powerpuck (as I have both of these already...)...

However, my question is...

How do you get the lamp holder assembly out of the top of the battery tube so that you can hardwire the lamp holder in? It appears to have a screw at the side but having finally found a way to turn this, it doesn't seem to come out....

I've searched hard and know this must be out there, but can't find it...

Anybody point me in the right direction....

you need a small hex wrench (I forget the exact size) to loosen the assembly. If you have a newer style Mag, the switch should slide out. If your Mag is older-style, you need a special tool to disassemble the switch. Take a peek inside the top of the light's tube. If it's got 4 little holes around a ring of sorts, you have the old style.
