I just received my first Panasonic 18650 batteries, and they look strangely... unmarked. I'm not totally surprised (I've seen the product pictures before) but still I was hoping to see more details. I can only find 2 product codes: NCR18650B and MH12210.
How can I tell..
- that they are made by Panasonic?
- what capacity they have?
- whether they are protected?
- perhaps when they were made?
And why doesn't Panasonic put more info on them?

Also why can't I upload the image as an attachment in the forum?

Ncr18650b is pretty much an unprotected 3400mAh battery from Panasonic.

This is the battery you'll find under the wrappings of the aw and eagletac protected 3400 batteries

The forum has chosen not to incur the storage and bandwidth expense of hosting images for you.
And if the image you want is part of somebody else's general website they do not consider it polite to that operator to allow you to deep link to that image.

So B is for 3400mAh and A is for 3100? Ok, I guess this answers one or two questions.
However, the battery is supposed to be protected, and I understand this battery is longer than normal (full 70 mm) due to the protection circuit. Is there a way to tell, without actually over-charging/discharging it?

Does that apply to everybody?

Right, I used an image host which should be ok.

Protected has the black extra bit on the bottom of cell (pcb)

... which should be visible in my picture too, right? So that means they're protected.
Thanks for your answers, I guess the main remaining question is why they're not labeled better.

Your cell is protected yes,i cant answer the other question,as far as i know its not been mentioned too much so i can presume its not been a big enough issue to do anything about:thinking:

these are 2 unprotected i got today

No extra black pcb at bottom, not measured being honest, and dont have a ruler at hand, but 3mm-4mm(closer to 3mm) difference in length with protection.

Just to add,i do agree with the labelling as it was a little:thinking: to me too:thumbsup: so your not alone on that one,i just read up a little....... only trouble is i dont always remember what i read
