How to mod an E1e to have lower levels of output?

I really like the tint of my incans, but being a low level fan really wish I could retain the output of my E1e while also being able to have either one or two lower levels of output.

Having sent an e-mail to AW and being told that his 3-level switch wouldn't work with the E1e I'm not hoping someone can tell me what my options are. Right now I never use my E1e's other than to shine around the room wishing I could control their output, not to mention getting a reflector that would make them less center weighted and get more light into the flood too.

Am I the only one who would carry an incan more often if they could have multiple levels?

Thanks for any help, but please don't tell me to buy a bigger light! :grin2:

Kaichu,

So strange that you should post this just when I was also wishing for a multi-level small incan for my fiance. She really likes my E2D, but she wants something smaller and I know she could use a light that had some variable output levels. I was eying the E1e for her, but didn't know if it would fit the bill as an all around light. Anyone have any recommendations?

Is she a flashaholic?

Most people who don't... "Have the interests 'we' do"... want a simple flashlight.
My wife doesn't like to be bothered with an interface more intricate than point/click.

That said, the E1e is an excellent example of a simple, reliable light.
My EDC (pocket) lights are either an E1e or a KL4 head on a VitalGear body.

If you're looking for recommendations; Mine are either the E1e or one of the new Quark mini's from 4-7s.

Something like this?
LightSaver Miser: SF E-series multi level/strobe
Not sure if they still sell these anymore though.
After a little searching it looks like they may not be available any longer. I'm not giving up yet though so thanks for the links!

If she wants something smaller you might consider just getting her a MiNi in either the CR2 or AA as either one will make even the E1e seem large by comparison. I think the smooth, wide beam pattern will make her ecstatic and the CR2 is about as cute as them come!

If you're set on getting her an E1e then I hope you'll share any info if you find a reliable method of dimming.

Does anyone know if the AW slow start, 3 level output tailcap mod can be made to work on the E1e if I got a different tailcap?

The only thing I can think of is if you can find a 1 cell body that has an e-series head and c-series tail. this will allow you to use your E1e head with whichever bulb you like, and use a surefire c-series tailcap and AW's 3speed softstart tailcap. I know Leef made a 2x18650 version of this concept, but don't know if there are smaller versions. Perhaps a custom request to one of our machinist will make your dream come true

Definitely a fan of the Quarks and haven't ruled them out. However I think she would prefer a clicky. The Tactical Series is an option because she would have the ability to customize a high and low. I have just become smitten with Surefires though and was thinking the E1e would fit her hand well. Thanks for the tips! :)

Here ya go!:D

1WRX7 and myself had designed and had these made a while back.

There were several different versions...Bare Aluminum, Nickle Plated, & Stainless Steel (Shown):eek:oo:

I tried an AW soft start on it and it works fine.
Mine also has a Fivemega Strion kit in it being ran by an AW 16430
Also added was an Aluminum Tailcap shroud....don't remember who made it..:shrug:

There's your ticket! Dafab's body is exactly what you need. I believe the delrin tailguard was made by nekomane :tinfoil:

That looks great! You wouldn't happen to have any more of those kicking around for sale, would you?

They're actually aluminum. I've been hoping to find one for a long time, but haven't been willing to buy an entire light just to get one. (Been very temped, though.)

Wish I had kept mine but it was sold some time ago. Funny because I had to keep on reducing the price. No one wanted it back then.
Good news is, the store I bought it from still has them listed.

They warn that the strobe could shorten the life of the bulb, something that wasn't mentioned before on the website.

gswitter, Yes the tailguard shown by DaFABRICATA were made from 6061 aluminum and hard anodized black. Thanks for clarifying.
I'm pretty sure you are aware but moddoo has a similar (and slicker :twothumbs: ) product here..

On a single-cell body? I was under the impression that the AW soft-start required a minimum of ~6V. Good to know.

Sort of... I have one of Moddoo's extensions for C-series tails (the friction-fit, delrin ring), but it's a little too bulky for me. I put a request in the thread you referenced for an extension (in either Al, Ti or delrin) just like the ones you made, but no luck yet. To me, your shroud is the ultimate U2 accessory, and none of the shrouded tailcaps I've tried (from Leef, RPM and other random 3rd parties) quite match the look or feel.

My E1e is my EDC around the house. [I add my A2 Aviator as an EDC if I walk out the door].

I have the Lumens Factory HO bulb in my E1e.
I like the LF bulb.

However...
When I want less than the "full power Lumens" of the LF HO bulb, I just put my little finger in front of the E1e lens, and move it around until I get the amount of light I need.

Huh, I haven't the faintest idea how to order from that website. Or how much the tailcap would cost. Maybe I'll give the google translator a shot...

It'll be around $40 and if you go to this page for Marugo there's a link for you to click so you can do a mail order.
