I used to have a few links to threads where people had opened a CMG infinity and modded it with a Lux 1 or 3 but the links dont work anymore. I have removed the crimp and want to get the pill out without damaging the circuit so i can reuse it. Does anyone have any pointers please or links to the original threads?

You push it out.

Find a piece of rubber eraser that is small enough to fit into the reflector. Apply pressure against the LED. If your eraser is too weak then use something hard. Using a hard object might slip and cut the reflector. Also destroy the 5mm LED. If you boil it, it will make it harder to remove as the epoxy will expand and press against the bezel wall.

The circuit is layered with epoxy, heat it up in boiling water and scrap it off. To mod the Infinity circuit is a lot of work. Take your time and be patient. The result is rewarding.

Now that I have help you with the search, the rest is up to you. Please show us your creation when you are done. Remember to take pics as your work. It's fun to watch some mods take place. The CMG Infinity is an extinct light. You might want to reconsider your modding path.

If you destroy any part of the circuit, that's ok, just buy a zetex boost board from DX, they have very similiar parts. The inductor might saturate if you mod to higher power output, you might need an inductor that is able to pump more current. Finally, with the availability of SSC P4 and Cree there is no need to mod the infinity circuit to pump out extreme high current to achieve brightness. I think the inductor *may* sustain an output of 150ma - 180ma. Low heatsink requirement. If you want more output, then go Li-Ion direct drive with some heavy heatsinking.

Thanks for all your help koala, i think it was your post that i was thinking of. I am going to keep the drive current stock, with a cree that will be plenty of light for what i want it for. I will do my best not to destroy it in the process, i guess if i can i can try and get a aaa sized board from somewhere. Thanks for your help, this is exactly what i was after.

The stock drive current for an Infinity is just 15 ma or so, and the Cree is maybe 2x as efficient as the Infinity-era led, so you won't get that much of a brightness increase. The beam color will be a lot more neutral though.

greenLED - what happen to your infinity mod post? I couldn't find it.

Hmmm, I didn't know the normal Infinity is only 15ma to the LED. How much longer running compared to the Ultra? I only have the Ultras with me 25hours runtime me think. Anyways, the CMG Infinity is a long running marathon light.

It's in your LuxI thread, but I just noticed the pics are missing. I'm not sure where those went.

The Infinity ran for ~40 hours, IIRC.
