How would YOU configure THREE SF9Ps?

OK, I broke down and bought THREE SF9Ps on sale from ASPITactical. I hope I get them.

I was thinking that I would configure them as follows:
(1) Put a KL-3 on one of them
(2) Put a HOLA in one of them
(3) Leave one of them "native"

Can you use the LOTC from the 6P on it or is the barrel incompatible? If you can use the LOTC, I think I'd put that on the HOLA one.

My use would be for night time walks--the LED for the normal light and the HOLA if I want to reach out and touch something.

The 3C Streamlight LED would be useful, too. I haven't done run-time on that yet, but I suspect that it will start to fall off in less than 7.5 hours (the KL3 is flat out to 7.5 hours) and C cells are about a buck while 123s are under two bucks. So it's still a tossup. The KL3 is MUCH brighter, but probably a narrower beam.

How would YOU configure them?

Cheers,

Richard

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I've heard that the threads are the same but the barrels are a slightly different diameter so although it works -- it might look a bit funny.

Any interest in trading one of your 9Ps for a 9Z?
That's what I bought from Aspi after the 9Ps were all gone.
I've heard that the KL3 looks pretty cool on the "Z"s.

Looks like you've already got it figured out!!

Make one of them a longer life rechargeable by running a P61 extended with 2@ A19's driven by 4 @ 4/5 A 2000 mAh NiMH's (edit) or extended with 3@ A19's driven by 4@ 2700 mAh A NimHs.

I got my second A19 yesterday and was very pleased with how well 4 @ 4/5 A NiMHs drove my P61 for 45 minutes last night. The overall length of this configutation is shorter than a DB4AA and about as long as a Mag 2C. It is, of course, thinner than either of the other lights mentioned.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">When it comes to lamp/battery combinations Lemlux probably knows as much or more than anyone in CPF. My ignorance about rechargeables is almost total, but I can tell you this:

Barrel diameters of the 6P and 9P are identical. There is one LOTC that fits all "standard" SF barrels. Furthermore, even though it my not look it, both the 6P tailpiece and bezel have identical inner diameters as the M2 (and presumably M3, etc) tail piece and bezel. Even though the M2 head is much broader and more imposing than any 6P/9P head, that is because the outer diameter is broadened.

A favorite accessory for the 9P is the SRTH 2.5" turbohead with N2 lamp. (105 lumens, I believe)
of the 9P. This combination has been thoroughly reviewed (don't have the threads handy, sorry) and before you turn up your nose at 105 lumens, you owe it to yourself to try this combo.

It's virtually a match for the Ultrastinger in a package that is much smaller, shorter and lighter. In terms of size and power, it's probably the most (or one of the most) bang-for-your-buck combinations in the Surefire world.

Good luck with your THREE! 9P's!

Brightnorm

I agree with Brightnorm that a 2.5" turbohead with the 105 lumen N2 is nice. If you're lucky, you might be able to find an old 3" TH which throws a slightly tighter beam. It's more awkward to carry, however.

Thanks, Brighnorm and Lemlux!

I'm confused between the KT-2 turbohead that's on the SF Web site and the SRTH turbohead. The 2002 catalog PDF that I keep handy also didn't have an SRTH.

I presume that the turbohead provides a very tight field. One of the joys of the 9P is that it has a bit of an area light along with a bright hot spot. I've been thinking that pinpoint reach, while interesting, leaves a lot of darkness. I don't know if it's worth what I paid for two whole flashlights. I'm on the fence. I do have the SL-6 which is a bit of a light sabre in its own right and some say close to the UltraStinger.

Anyway, I ordered one P91 and one KL3 and the clickie lockout tailcap (for the HOLA-equipped unit).

I'm thinking that the HOLA and the LED will make a nice pair.

The 9P (yes, they arrived today) is noticeably brighter than G2 or E2e (I found the G2 and the E2e to be approximately the same brightness.

I haven't measured yet.

The 9P is definitely not an EDC light (at least not in your pocket). By the way, these are called "Clear" which is a bright aluminum.

I'm not complaining for $40 each. I did buy FIVE! but two are for another flashaholic at work.

I think I'm over-lighted, but heck, I hang out here.

Can't wait for the KL3--I'm expecting it by next weekend and will report then (if I get it).

Cheers and thanks,

Richard
