How would you describe the Nitecore DI packaging?

The light aside, I think that packaging has to be the worst I have ever seen. No doubt it's of high quality and shows attention to production - but it really seems to be the result of a total mis-translation of marketing.

The following spring to mind:

1. There was a video game mid-80s called "Ikari Warriors". That.

2. It's like the box you would expect to get on some special edition boxed set of Alien vs Predator 3.

3. Some kind of replica or airsoft handgun

4. Presentation case for some kind of North Korean Medal of Honour.

It's designed to convey the same "tough military guy" attitude as the logos on the light itself.
The NDI could certainly be shipped in a smaller packaging, but it isn't the first light I've seen with a hell of a lot of unnecessary foam padding around it.

Plus, the box is nice for electronic projects or small electronic parts. :p

i like the packaging, sure beats the hell out of my G2Zs packaging..:duck:

actually i would really like if the foam was fitted to the light, that would look really cool...:D

I think you will find both oppinions referring to the packaging - Some people who appreciate spending money and receiving a light in a box that is revealed in a more presentation style form which could also be used to store the light or the people who prefer the minimal packaging of say a Surefire who do not need any fancy packaging and prefer to just take the light out and use it and throw away the packaging.

Me personally I prefer the NDI packaging and feel they took more time from a marketing perspective to showcase their first light and did so successfully. :D

It was nice not getting a light in a plastic baggie or having to use a blowtorch to get open that tough heat-welded crap.

I'm sure a few bucks were put into the packaging, but it's nice every now and then. It's a neat box.

I wouldn't use the lanyard to poke a dead raccoon with, but some people like it too. :)

These are Cons? Heh.

I think that people played fun on their logo since the beginning. In the end they delivered a great product, so the laughs went away.

It's funny how people always find something to complain about.

I bet if it came with a dozen spare o-rings and free lithium batteries someone would say that it was too many o-rings and the batteries aren't super fresh Energizer E2's or something...

OKay, the packaging is a bit big, but the alternatives are not so great.

I think the packaging is the nicest I've seen on a flashlight. What's wrong with a nice box.

The manual is another story. These eyes at a couple of scores and a half old strain something awful to see that red print. If you could pick the worst color type to try and see it would have to be RED on a semi-dark back ground.

If they give me the light in a Zip lock back (ala Arc back in the old days) and pass the savings to me, I'd be happy. I use lights as tools and the packaging/glitz/cosmetics are way at the bottom of my list. For me, the packaging is the first thing that gets tossed into the dumpster.

I think they used to print the copy protection 'code sheets' for old games in that color scheme for just that reason! More nostalgia. All your lumens are belong to us!

I really wish I had arrived in time to pick one of these up at the cheap rate, every time I think of the "Strong Light" warning it makes me giggle. I dunno why, I'm strange (Hence the avatar).

So did eveybody else!

Until, SureFire put it on E1B and then all the giggles stopped. It really was amazing to see how there was so little snikering. The players who took every opportunity to denigrate Nitecore for this warning were completely mum when it showed up on E1B.

Don't get me started on the complaints about Fenix and their smooth bodies :)

You might want to check your facts there... the E1B has no such marking on the outside whatsoever. Someone photoshopped it in as a joke, purely because of the absurdity on the NDI.

The E1B does, however, feature the characteristic Surefire 'Caution: Hot Surface' warning.

I agree totally and couldn't have said it better.

Really? The worst you have ever seen? You must be kidding! To be honest, I didn't really go over the packaging with a fine tooth comb. When I opened the envelope, I kind of thought, wow, that's kind of a nice box and got my light out with the accessories and put the box away. The packaging isn't all that important to me, but it was kind of nice to get a light presented so well. Most other lights I have gotten just came in a little ziplock baggie- and that's fine too. I guess stuff like this just doesn't bother me that much like it apparently does others. To each his own.

I think EdgeTac was proud of their light and thought they were making a nice presentation.

I didn't mind it at all. I did find the red lettering in the manual hard to read though.

Looks communist mall ninja stuff, the star actually is very similar to a trademark for chinese made pistols, or the red army cap. Actually they could have included that as souvenir, i'd take the cap or the messenger bag in a heartbeat over the lanyard .

You do know that the E1B "strong light" was a joke right?

Personally I really don't care about the packaging. Like what CM said, these lights are tools for me. But when I was still in school I've read somewhere in my business eco books that packaging speaks alot on how the manufacturer/producer perceives their target consumers. And from packaging alone you will see who their target buyers are. You don't see six dollar burgers being advertised as kid's meal, and same goes for a BMW as an economy car.
