So I have a bunch of headlamps and was seduced by Petzl to try out the Aria.

It's not a bad light at all. I tested it out walking to where I fish and it wasn't terrible, I know a lot of people complain about big box store (I got mine @ Cabelas) lights. But for $120 including 2 spare rechargeable batteries I think I did ok.

I'm gonna keep it for friends I bring night fishing with me. Or if something happens to my main light.

I'll make this as simple of a call for help as possible.

Budget: no more than $300 cad and I'd like that include a battery or two.

Light requirements: RED LIGHT IS A MUST. and I need to walk to and from my truck in the woods at night to where I fish. I was watching some you tube videos along with field tests and it seems in reality I would do well with 600 lumens for walking back to my truck and 300-400 lumen for work like tying knots etc. I know this bc the petzl is like 300 lumens and it's perfect for close up work in the dark. But my led Lenser and perun2 from OLight are nicer to walk around obstacles.

Battery requirements: I don't care if it's a magnetic charger or a usb charger, just let me be able to change the batteries if I need to.

I will be wearing it for extended periods of time. So the lighter the better. See my problem is I love the perun from OLight but it's honestly a no-go bc I can't just pop in a new battery. Oh and it has to be IP67 Atleast. Torrential rain bursts and mud are common.

With your help you will make my fishing season this much more enjoyable. So thank you in advance.

(Lake Sturgeon…not as big as the white sturgeon on the west coast but still a ton of fun)

You have high expectations for a headlight, but not bad if you can afford it. I have an older Coleman that has a low medium and high. Low is around 20 lumens and high is 100. It also has a couple of red lights and blue lights. It has a good hotpot and a good wide spill. I got it for under $50 and it is more than enough for me. It even has a battery strength indicator. I don't know if it can still be bought, but I recommend it.

Second the Sofrin. Personal rec would be an Emisar D2. Chose a red emitter for one channel and any number of options for the second. Not sure how long it would maintain 600 lumens (kind of a lot for walking), but you can always pack more 14500 cells.

Skilhunt H200.

  • Red light
  • High CRI 519A main white light mode
  • Magnetic tail for using as a worklight
  • Magnetic charging and runs on standard 18650s (Unlike the Perun2) so they're easy to get spares for.
  • Waterproof
  • Nice UI
  • Well under your 300cad (buy a spare in case you drop one off a boat haha!)

If you haven't already purchased a headlamp, here are a few options to consider.
From Fenix:

https://fenix-store.com/collections...products/fenix-hm50r-v2-0-headlamp-700-lumens

If you want a longer running headlamp, here's another option from Fenix.

A custom version of this headlamp:

Another custom option from SkyLumen:

Then you have Acebeam as another brand to look into:

Good luck with your decision and hope you find a headlamp that fits your needs. 👍😊
