I got a new flashlight last night at the pub.
From a woman...
A married woman...
Married to a Policeman...

It's an ELC Y.Explorer Tricolour.
2C 1.5Watt

It's fantastic!

It's got the following features:
Impact resistant Bezel Rim.
3-4" reflector
1.5W bulb
2 C cells
Three phase switch - on, off and push button-to-flash.
Two filters - integrated into reflector.
Two stage dial for rotating either red or green (or both!) filters in front of bulb.
Easy stand-alone / anti-roll style.
Grip handle with integrated grip.
Battery & lamp cartridge for easy change-out.

It's shiny purple!

"Great fun in the dark!"
"Read your favourite book at night"
"Make shadow shapes with your fingers and project on the wall!"

I'm very impressed.

Al

Wow, sounds great

I guess now, you won`t be needing that SF M6 any more? It`s OK, you don`t have to throw it away, I`ll take it of your hands, it`s no trouble.

Sounds pretty nice. Post pictures if you can. (Oh, yea, post pictures of the flashlight, too....

Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink, Say no MORE!)

Those flashlights contain homing devices and are issued to police officers whose wives frequent English pubs.

Good luck!

She was my boss. That was my leaving present.
On Saturday, I leave The Partnership

The torch has sentimetal value - much like the M2 Proto PK sent me, and the baseball cap autographed by the Sonic Avengers.

Today, I bought myself my first MagLites -
2D-silver
3D-Dark Blue.

The biggest lights I now own.

Where can I get those bright bulbs from?

Al

Don't bother with the bright bulbs for the MagLites. Before you use them, just have your eyes dialated.

Jahn is right, these Mag-Lites look good, but that's about it. They are HUGE!! The Light output is pathetic - weak, dull, yellow, flawed with rings etc.
The runtime had better be good.

The ELC torch... Now that's got a dreadful beam too but then you don't expect a similar beam from a torch that looks like a MagLite.
I'd expect the 3D cell to out perform the M6. It doesn't out perform the E2. It's about the same as the E1.

Perhaps I'd better not visit the Mag Booth at SHOT cos I could get thrown out for giving them a good talking to!

You don't need to do that, just take some SF's with you to show them what a good light is supposed to do. I can't say much though. I just ordered a 3D on ebay. Brand new. Less than $15 shipped. I couldn't resist the challenge of trying to make it a light with a good output.

They were going cheap.

To be honest, I'd never seen a Mag-Lite with fresh batteries. Now I realise it doesn't make much difference how fresh the batteries are.

Also, they were really cheap - like the D Cells cost more then the 2 flashlights!

The Mag 3D is a Work of Art, beautifully proportioned.
The "Mag Silver" is the most white-silver of any metallic finishes, (that I've personally seen) counting Palladium, Platinum, Aluminium, Stainless, whatever. That's a colour I love. (It is dyed-anodised, not a clear finish over the Aluminium, as far as I can tell.)

As you've noticed,

the light output is not anywhere near SureFire standards. Runtime: the 3D will put out light for 10+ hours, so I'm told. After 4 hours or so, it yellows too much for me to endure. Nonetheless, I have a fondness for the Mag-Charger and the 3D, which just manages to stay the right side of rational. (!! )

Anyway, there isn't anything the size of the M6 which comes even close to that magnificent unit. I consider the M6 a Work of Art too.

It also doesn't eat six Lithium 123 batteries in 20 minutes or 1 hour...

Size15s. what is "The Partnership" if I may ask? Sounds to me like a branch of MI6.
On to the Mag. Put the WriteRight on the lens and use a XPR103 bulb.
Before you disparage the Mag anymore please do not forget you now have an impact weapon at hand.

"The Partnership" is "The John Lewis Partnership" I am a Partner working for Waitrose Foodshops of the John Lewis Partnership.

Until 19:00 hours Saturday 26th January 2001 that is.

I now work for FIRA International, and doing both is a 50+ hour 6 day week, and I'm too old for that!

I am go off topic if I want for two reasons:
1) It's my thread
2) I'm a Moderator
3) I've had a bad day

Anyways, Where can I get those lamps?

Thanks!

Al

The XPR's can be had at Radio Shack but I do not know if they(RS) are in the UK. Maybe some of your fellow Brit's can suggest a shop that sells the lamps or equivalent's.

Bought a Mag. Just think. Next comes a Brinkmann.

Hey Al, if you can't find the XPR103 or similar over there send me an email and I will see what I can do. Hey you could get them in Vegas at a Radio Shack during your shot show visit

*something ridiculous ?
Thanks for the welcome.
Glad to be of help.

Hunting for torches/flashlights, bulbs etc. over here in the UK can be a challenge, but that's part of the fun I guess!
