i have a 100 led light on its way to me also, im guessing it will also be an excellent discharger :)

i got em b4 i found this site

pity, i was hoping for military grade performance for $10

the clicky has 3 settings

1.middle leds, 2.half of em, 3 all of em.

so the switch is ok....i think...??

can i get a variable strobe 'diode' ? anywhere and build a disorienting weapon?

or a cool disco light

The switch is probably just wired up that way, probably nothing complex in that light at all. Direct drive probably, might have a resistor.

There are many lights that have strobe mode(some have more then one). Strobe is controlled by the driver which controls the current(and hence output) of the LED. The LED itself is just a blue emitting diode with a yellow phosphor(most white LEDs are like that).

If you want good performance on the cheap, look for current gen LED lights from Dealextreme or Kaidomain that are getting decent-good reviews. The Current gen LEDs are the Cree XR-E, MC-E, Seoul P4, P7, Luxeon Rebel, TFFC K2.
