I just cannot pull the trigger anymore

Tried to order a new Inova T1, had it all set up and ready to push order and I just could not do it. I have so many lights, most never get used. What purpose would it be for? What would it do so much better than any other I have? How can I justify spending $50 on another flashlight when I have so many that do the same thing, and so many that simply lay around.

Oh well, I still have my X03s, X0s, X5s, X1s and all the others...

I feel your pain, brother. I too have sensed an approaching plateau in my flashoholism, i even posted this a while ago,and the (all good natured) replies ranged from derisive snorts ("yeah, right!!") to the comforting "you'll get over this, not to worry" kind of stuff. But i've hung in there, for a couple months,i believe, though i did just purchase a new LM31, but only to replace a lost one, my very favorite EDC. Had it been almost any other light i own, i might not have "pulled the trigger".
Buuuuuuuttttttt............i've recently been made aware of the existence of a new Surefire, "backup" something or other, i think, two-stage clicky, black anodised, smooth, pocketable surface, single battery. Maybe i'll call OpticsHQ...i mean, it can't hurt just to ASK,right ?

I do not have nearly the collection of lights as others here on CPF, but I also have a hard time justifying more flashlights. A few weeks ago, I got an email from Gene Malkoff that he had put some new drop-ins on his site. I went to the site, and the 3D Maglite drop-in I've been desiring was available. But I didn't buy it. About a half hour later, I weakened and went back to buy it, but they were sold out (of course).

I did drop some coin on a Romisen RC-G2 and another KD buckle light recently, but those were pretty cheap. If the Optimus was available today, I would probably buy it.

I was in the same position not that long ago. I went almost 6 months without buying a light, and thought my flashoholism was finally over. But I can tell you this, this hobby is just like any bad addiction. Once a flasoholic, always a flashoholic. All it took was for me to buy ONE light after that 6 month streak of buying nothing, and all I want to do is buy more lights now! I got a taste and now I want more again! :ohgeez:

Although with that being said, I do feel as if my collection is "maturing". I have sold off all my lights that I don't use, so my collection is now half the size it used to be. If I buy anymore lights in the near future, they will be users. I am waiting for my HDS twisty(pre-ordered) and also plan on buying the new Surefire UA2. Both of those two lights will get used....I don't buy them anymore just because I "want to". Kinda hard to explain....

I think you still have a couple of options. There is nothing wrong with wanting a new light.... but how about passing on a few of your lesser used torches.

You could sell a few over on the Marketplace and make presents of others to friends or family. This will leave a 'hole' in your collection that will need to be filled as soon as possible with a new light. :)

"Hi. My name is __________ and I'm a Flashaholic, and it's been _____ days since I bought a flashlight."

(everyone) "HI _________________"

I think I've always had the similar problem, or is it a good thing, mostly because I'm cheap. With the rapid advancements the last couple years and so many new companies popping up I tell myself to wait for something better. And the new stuff is better. Now if could just stop nickel and dimeing for the little junk lights. But, it's too much fun and the guilt level is manageable. Derek has the answer, about selling or giving some away. Unfortunately, excepting a few, most of mine aren't worth the postage or would be an insult as gifts.

I actually said out loud to my Sister that once I get the stuff currently on order (DX and KD), the LumaPower DX1 that's getting a new LED and the Fenix 4 in 1 pack arrive I'll be done for a while.

In fact probably until R2 is old hat.

I have several good AA, 123, C and D cell lights that don't get used.

Looking forward to Green Laser fun now!

Yeah, I said that too, until the Stainless C3 showed up.....

As time goes by though, I think it does become harder and harder to tickle me enough to actually cause money to be spent. That is, unless those Gerber Infinities over at eknifeworks come back in stock.....

Juts do what everyone else does, love em for a while, then let them loose in the marketplace... Unless you're a "true" collector. I'm actually in the process of letting loose a couple too. Once the Shoppe decides to stock on certain Aleph parts...:naughty:

One of the symptoms of depression is when you no longer
get pleasure doing the things you used to enjoy. :sigh: :mecry:

:caution: Is this a cry for help? Look at the wording: "...pull the trigger".:caution:

The heart says "BUY!" but the head says "why?".

Hey, maybe your sense of logic is offended by not being
able to state in reasonable terms the purpose of yet another
electronic photon distributor. My intuition tells me that
even though The Thrill Is Gone for now, when that new
2.5 million lumen 10 die CREE powered by one AA batt arrives,
you'll realize that computers were made to be logical,
and people were made to follow their irrational passions.

And when you do, you'll get a hearty "Welcome Back" from us all.

I know how you feel. I have started to buy several lights in the last month but stopped just short of completing the order. I argued myself out of them by asking what I would use this light for? Did I not already have a light that would do that? Would this one do it better?
And now thanks to bob4apple I know that I am suffering from depression also! 2008 is not starting out as a good year.:thumbsdow

I have two ways of looking at this. One of them was summarized very well by a friend: "Why do you need to justify another light to anyone?" My girlfriend just ordered me an HDS Twisty for my birthday (yes I know she's a keeper :twothumbs), but as she was ordering it she asked what this light does that my other lights won't do. I said it does the same things but it's a little more rugged and it will become my new edc. I didn't really have to justify it to her...she would have been OK with "I just want this light".

The other way I look at this is that I have spent a lot of money on lights and batteries and originally I bought them to be prepared for any number of emergencies. I now have all those emergencies covered (and then some). So really I should spend my money on other things that will help me in other ways. It's sometimes a difficult balancing act. The amount of joy I get from any new light now is usually quite small compared to the joy I might get from a new gun or knife or a new roof on my house. Anyway, this is all a moot point when Henry comes out with more of his lights. Go HDS! Ra Ra Ra!

My addiction all started when I got my hands on a Brinkmann Maxfire LX years back. When I first tried it, I was blown away. I couldn't believe the amount of light output from such a little thing. Then I graduated to Surefire lights and now I can't seem to stop buying them. Recently, I seem to be ordering these cheap DX (Romisen) lights, but I find myself always coming back to my SF's. Now my collection consists of about 15 flashlights, and it seems to be growing at an alarming rate as of late :eek:oo: For some reason, I can't stop that itch! I guess I'm like a crack fiend needing my fix :(

LOL. Yeah, I must admit I took a break through most of 2007, purchasing only a Surefire M2 and an L1 IIRC. Whenever I hit a flashlight "wall" like that I try to sell off some of the collection, even if I like the lights. Once I get out of my little flashlight ownership comfort level it brings something out of me and I pick up a new light or two to play with.

My last herd-thinning was an offload of some Surefires... used the funds for a new M6. Feels good for the moment. But now I have my eye on the new Surefire LED lights, the ones new for this year. So for the forseeable future my flashlight budget is tied up.

Don't worry, your blue funk will pass. ;-)

Lately, I've been buying modding supplies, so that in order for me to get a new flashlight it means I have to do some work. I guess I'm pushing it to more of a hobby than just buying things.

I want to convert my cree lights to warmer tint led's. :duh2:

I find myself enjoying the modding of the new lights I aquire more than the fact of owning them.

My favorite light right now is a yellow G2 with a Q2 modded DX drop-in. It takes so much abuse and still looks good. All my other lights are fragile.
