I have had my Haiku for awhile now, and have always loved it. It is the perfect EDC light for me, and has NOT left my pocket since it's arrival. On May 1st, I started a night security job, and my Haiku has been my go to light. Tonight it has been pea soup thick foggy, and my Haiku cuts through the fog like a hot knife through butter!! I LOVE my Haiku more and more!! Thanks for reading/listening!! Only you guys understand.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I have three of them!! All different - but all similar - XRE (original), XPG, and XPGW. Great interface, tint, beams, etc. And beautiful to boot. In a job like yours, you really have to depend on your light, right?

Thanks for sharing!

I've had a very hard time not carrying my Mac EDC SST-50 since I got it, which actually kinda makes me feel bad, because I also really like my Haiku...and my XR19...and my LSC20...and and and and...

I bet the leftover Haiku XR-E parts that Don has could be pretty quickly adapted to run SST-50 emitters, and if his drivers are built at all like the GDuPs are, then it wouldn't be a terribly difficult job for their manufacturer to refit them to output at least 1A...

Subtle... :poke: :nana: lol

I've been eyeing the Haiku for a while... Still can't bring myself to pull the trigger as my LS20 is so perfect for my needs... But one day when funds are a little more abundant I'm quite sure I'll have one...

OHHHHHH now that would be sweet! Sign me up!:grin2:

I loved my LS20 also, there is nothing that can match its superior elegance IMHO. But the Haiku is such a user. A true "go-to" light that has a great beam and handles probably 95 percent of tasks.

Original poster - Which Haiku model do you have?

Fyrstormer,
The 3S converter is not designed for or viable beyond its present current level. But don't let that stop you or your idle speculation. I'm happy for you that you have found a light you like better than the Haiku and others mentioned.

TKC,
I am pleased to read that you still like your Haiku! Thanks.

fyrstormer, doesn't it bother you that you can't quickly check which level the EDC is in, without having it switch to the next level next time you switch it on ? The EDC is a beautifull and powerfull light but it's UI make it fall short in practical use, IMHO. The Haiku UI is almost the same, but that "almost" changes everything.

I don't really want to get into too much of a discussion about someone else's products here, but generally speaking, with the Mac EDC or any of my GDuP-driven Gizmos, I just turn the light on and then quickly change the mode if it's the wrong brightness. There are instances when I need to check it beforehand, and in those instances I just press the light against my hand and look at the brightness of the light that bleeds out, which I would have to do with either UI if I don't want to blind myself. You're right, the Haiku/SunDrop UI is the best all-around, but the others aren't far enough behind for me to dismiss them completely.

Haiku is a wonderful light. I unfortunately got a LS20 and Haiku at the same time & fell in love with PD drive - fortunately traded Haiku for 2-Pak McClicky & cash (long story) and ended up later getting a bead blast Haiku when they came out.

I'm a holster guy - use lights in industrial setting (production mgr, pulp & paper), so have light & flashlight always with me, have 6P moddoo triples (XR-E 3 level, 1 warm, 1 cool), MAC EDC (1 warm 1 cool), BB XR-E Haiku is in the rotation and never have I thought - "wish I had another level" for the Haiku. McGizmo Ti PD XP-G is also in rotation. XR-U is for special applications....

I'm glad Don "warmed up" to offering warm & cool leds on the Haiku.

Out of current lights in rotation - the triple LED lights offer a very large "hot spot" with very very gradual transition out from the center. Very nice for looking over piping & instrumentation up in the ceiling.

If I could only have one light..... it would probably be one I don't have right now - a warm BB Haiku.

Like TKC, my Haiku hasn't sat at home without me since it arrived.
The low is great for late nights around the house, the medium for outside general use and specific searching inside, and the high is ... well ... so impressive that sometimes I turn it on just for fun.
The form factor makes me smile every time I use it, handle it, or just admire at it.
I really like floody lights, and have added a very mild diffuser film to the glass that is quickly removable when more distance is required. This isn't often as with the brilliant high beam and diffuser I can still illuminate the world out to 100 metres.

+1 on the Haiku love... XP-G has been a constant presence since it arrived. It has enough output to work beautifully a bunch of times a day in my shop. Used hard, not abused, dirty by the end of the day with grease and oil... Quick wipedown with windex and a soft cloth, some krytox when changing batteries once or twice a week, (AW's RCR123's) and it's as good as new. I've not worried once that it has come off my pocket regardless of activity, and it works like a charm. May need a backup...

Great to see this light is taking some serious abuse, Scout24. It has been a couple months since I had a Haiku in my possession and once again my love affair with it has been rekindled. I'm speaking of the XR-E version as the tint is so perfect it could make one cry. One could argue its beam isn't as perfect as its XP-G cousin, but it can darn near come in a close second. For an R2 or Q5, its beam far succeeds all others I have seen and tried and best to see it in person to be fully appreciated. This time around I intend to use it worry-free as if it were an Ra Light. However, it seems whenever it comes into view for the first time (imagine a toy taken in and out of a baby's sight) that sense of Oh-this-is-a-work-of-art-should-be-on-a-display-stand-no-scratches-no-scratches-NO-SCRATCHES!-light thought plays again. :ohgeez::candle:

Anyone else have this Haiku symptom? :p

The only thing keeping me from getting that warm Haiku after which I've been lusting since before there were even XP-G models is the even illumination on my LS20. I know Don feels his Haiku is more functional, but when I need a wide, even beam, there are no other lights that I have that can produce that, though I have several 3-4 level lights. I might have to sell all of those soon in order to get that Haiku!

I briefly owned both a WXP-G and a LS20 and as sweet as the LS20 is in output, the warm XP-G, regular XP-G, and XR-E are even sweeter IMHO. I am like you that I prefer a wider, even (floodier) beam as well. I had to sell a bunch of lights in order to make it happen but it is so worth it and you wonder  why didn't I do this earlier? It IS worth it. :tinfoil: Just my 2 cents.

I also have quite a few lights by now...

When I went on holiday, I didn't want to buy a new suitcase just for the lights, so I had to make a choice and it was quickly clear which lights I would need :

The Clicky 170Cn and the Haiku XP-G! If I could do what Don tells us to do, just abuse that damn piece of titanium, the Haiku could do the job alone. I just can't stick it in the pocket of my G-1000 like the Clicky...

I fear I must have a warm Haiku as well soon, as I just preffer warmer tints. I already have neutral white lights with an XP-G, but those are no Haiku. The beam is wonderfully smooth, the brightness is the one I expect from a Cree light, the design is elegant with a superb finish and the 3-mode preselection UI is still the best one in my eyes if you preffer it KISS.

Recently, I exchanged the 1x123 pak of my Haiku BB for a 2xAA pak, that Haiku XR-E BB looks wonderfull now, the beam surprised me again while testing the new body, it is very close to the XP-G and has a slightly warmer tint, no way to sell that one, it's so cute with the thin, long body now...

My recommendation to go the "cheap" way : (Forget about all chineese and whatever lights and) Buy a Haiku XP-G and a warm Haiku 2xAA at once, get a 2x123 Makai as soon as available and you're done, you'll have everything you'll ever need, just pay attention not to feed a Haiku head with 6 Volt...

I enjoyed reading Henk_Lu's post - this morning when I took out the Haiku XPG (I have a warm version, too - just wanted to enjoy the 'regular one' this morning) I also had a 170N Clicky in my pocket- just a bit more throw, plus everyone knows you simply MUST have a backup!
