Give a look at the ZebraLight headlights.

H50 model takes a single AA cell

They also have a new model which takes a CR123A cell.

The H50 has received fantastic reviews here !

Love my Petzl MYO XP. I have an older one upgraded with the SSC P4-U bin LED. The new ones come with the SSC and have a grey colour. Three brightness modes with a wideangle diffuser. Not fully waterproof though.

I have had many headlights and still have a couple Petzl lights. The only one I carry now is the very simple Black Diamond Ion as I like the fact I can wear it around my neck without it really looking like a headlight, and although it's not a super bright light it works great for close up work, or giving a little walking light while walking in pitch black situations.

If you don't mind the packing size of a full-size headlamp, there are an incredible array of excellent ones out there; but if you want something both bright and super packable, I believe the Zebralights are going to be the best choice.

I don't have one yet. But i was told for fishing to gove the UK Vizion a look. Supposivley(sp) waterproof, has a spot light, that can be diffuese by moving the lense. I also beleive it has a red led or lense i can't remeber someone will chime in and correct me if wrong.

In the pic of your old headlamp does the lettering on the strap say
LED HERDLIGHT ? As in you on a horse, at night, in the bush, searching
for a herd of cattle? Marketing people are funny eh?

Suggest also the Petzl Myo Xp. The flip up/down diffuser is extremely useful.
-Say you have a fishing pole in one hand and a gaff in the other you can
flip the diffuser by rubbing your arm over the lamp and change from spot to
a wide beam. No other lamp does that for you.

Just make sure that you get the new grey one and not the older blue one, or else you may want to swap the LED in future.

yep it says 'headlight'. my mistake.
The Myo Xp is the headlamp I take up to Yosemite leaving the several
Rayovac's and Dorcy HL's at home to collect dust.
