Hi, I am new here to the forums and I am looking for a little advise.

I am looking for a new EDC/work light. I had a streamlight strion but it seems to have walked off. I have to secure vacant houses sometimes I do several a day and they almost never have power. So I need a light that is easily transported by either pocket or a good secure holster.

I need the light to be pretty bright and be rechargeable. I would prefer a runtime of 60 minutes or more. The light also needs to be pretty durable, because I put my tools through a lot of abuse. I would like to spend around $200 or less.

I am open to either Ican or led although there are times where I need a good through that an Ican produces.

Thanks in advance :)

I would suggest you think about a headlamp too... If you are walking around and need to use keep your hands free (closing faucets, locking windows, etc.), it is hard to beat a good headlamp.

Regarding rechargeable lights--do you mind opening them up and pulling AA cells (or other sized cells) out and putting them on the charger, or you do want to be able to put the whole light in a charging station (car/home?).

I had a headlamp for awhile and I didn't like it too well. I do still keep one in my vehicle though for the times I do need to use both hands.

I am not opposed to pulling the cells and charging them, but I would prefer a light I could just drop into a charger.

As far a lights with charging cradles go, these come to mind first:
1. Streamlight stinger incan
2. Inova T4 LED
3. The new Pelican 7060 LAPD LED

Check out the new Surefire E2L (Cree version). It gets 9 hours of nice white regulated runtime (and something on the order of 7 more hours of dimming output). It is extremely rugged and fits nicely in your price range.

When you want an incan that's reasonable small, bright, in light recharging, you have few choices. Streamlight strion or stinger, or Pelican M9. Not much to chose from as far as price and all are bright enough. Size would go fro strion, stinger, to M9 being the largest but not by that much (a bit bigger around). One benefit to the M9 is that it doesn't look like it costs as much and may not be quite as attractive to possible thieves as the other lights. The M9 is just as high quality but looks a little more industrial rather than "police" if you will and may stay with you longer.

Thanks for all the suggestions and info so far. I will defiantly be looking into those lights.

I have also been looking at the Surefire L7. I know its a little bigger that what I am looking for but Surefire does offer a holster for it. I was also recommended a Surefire L4 with rechargeable 123 cells. Whats ya'lls opinion on those two lights?

Inova T4 with a reflector.

Under $200.
Rechargeable.
Bright LED with plenty of throw and flood.
Durable as Hell.

The 2007 model with a reflector has more sidespill than the older TIROS model. Perfect for exploring darkened houses.

An older L4 might work, but Surefire made sure that newer L4s won't work with rechargeable cells.

How bright would the Inova be compared to my previous Strion light? I understand there will be some difference since they are different types of bulbs.

I have been seeing a lot of talk about the Novatac lights as well. Could these be run off rechargeable cells?

The Strion is about 81 lumen(Link to review, overall output times 1.62 for approximate lumens for incandescent lights, multiply by 1.39 for LEDs) The Novatec 120P/T should be brighter(120 lumen on High).

The Fenix P3D-CE/Rebel 100 version might be a bit brighter then the Novatec(about 125 lumen for the Cree P4 version and up to 150 for the Rebel 100 version on High) but it probably won't stand as much abuse as the Novatec. It will work with 2 RCR123 batteries or 2 16340 batteries.

Both lights mentioned will requite you to unscrew and take out the batteries to charge them.

I'd recommend the Pelican 7060 if you like a cradle charger.

Welcome to CPF!
