Say guys, I have a battery charger that takes AAA and AA batteries. I'm looking for a VERY bright LED flashlight that takes 2 or 3 AA batteries. I buy rechargeable batteries cause they pay for themselves in a years time. I'm also looking for a flashlight that has a lance loop (cord) at the tail end. I'm looking for a flashlight that has a button on the side. A few flashlights I bought at Radio Shack or Rite Aid have button power switches on the end or one has to twist the end to turn it on.. Okay guys, I need some feedback here. thanks...

you pretty much killed it with a side button on a AA type flashlight.

If you go with the button on the tail, the Fenix L2D Q5 is very nice or the EagleTAC P10A2 is very very bright. I know the Fenix L2D or LD20 actually, have the loops for a tail cord. I don't know if the EagleTac does but it is definitely brighter. I would do away with the side button requirement otherwise you will be stuck with some very mediocre hardware store type flashlights. :duh2:

RC-N3

Mine was a smidge finicky until a small magnet was put on the + connection but it has a nice white LED and can take either 2AA or 1x123.

Not sure I'd want only a 1 mode light however. The Fenix has multi modes that work out nice for me!

I am very new to this but did some research and if you remove the button criteria then the Wolf eyes Angel A with Li-ion AA gives 180 lumen and comes with battery and charger. Very compact and superb tight white beam. Before my opinion can be properly informed i will have to buy a few more. Here in the UK we get a good pound to dollar exchange so prices are probably better than in the US.

With the button on the side, there's also the Photon Proton Pro. Only one AA so not extremely bright, but it can manage 100lumens and it also has a dim red LED for when you want to preserve your night vision.

If you drop the button on the side requirement it depends what you want: Fenix LD20/L2D (basically the same lights) if you want a lot of different brightness levels, Eagletac P10A2 if you want the brightest and sturdiest 2AA light currently on the market. It only has a general mode of 45 lumens and a high mode of 200 lumens plus. A lower low mode is necessary if you want to use the light to read or do anything up close.

Fenix LD20
forget the side button request, it narrows the field two toooo much

What about a modded 2D Mag with the AA battery holder (6 AA) and some smokin emitter?! Someone around here will be able to build you one.

Question:

- why button on the side? Is it a preference thing? Or a required-movement/use thing?

If it's just something borne from the Maglite familiarity ... then it would be time and money well spent to wean yourself from it because all the best offerings are tailcap switch models (typically).

It doesn't have a side button, but I'll put in my 2 cents for the Nitecore AA line-up.

The Defender is about as bright as you can get without going to 14500's, but it really shines there too. I am always surprised what that light can do with an Eneloop. Nice feeling light in the hand also.

The Photon Proton Pro is also quite bright (but not NDI bright) and has the option of red light that is also variable. Very nice little light and has a side button. Has had a lot of favorable comment here.

The EagleTac P10A2 is the brightest 2AA light I know of and it has a lanyard on the tail end. It is amazingly bright for a 2xAA, and I do pocket carry it, although it is a bit big for easy pocket carry. Alas, as others have mentioned, it is a rear clicky.
