I don't mind getting a solar force host and doing a good drop in or using the host and assembling everything else myself. Or something similar.

I also have a 4D mag light waiting for something to be done. I just need something to do.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

4d mag with a cree xml, H22A DHS flat top heat sink,4 Nimh's, and 2.8amp amc7135 driver. You can improve throw with a led rebel mag reflector. The rebel reflector can also be purchased seperatly from zbattery part #108-846. With the rebel reflector you will have to take off the lip on top of the heat sink so the heat sink will slide down in the mag tube. You will have to drill and tap a hole for a set scew to fasten the heat sink in place in the tube.

Will the rebel reflector fit in a normal D (not DL) Maglite?

Make an Osram bulb mod with 4 26650's in that maglite. And then go set some cardboard on fire.

I had trouble using a rebel reflector with HAIII heatsinks. The pedalstool isnt deep enough. The rebel reflector goes down onto the base of the heatsink and the head doesnt screw on. Did you grind down to make the post taller?

Did you grind the top lip off the heatsink so that the heatsink will slide down inside the mag tube. You will have to drill and tap a hole for a set screw to hold the heatsink in place inside the tube. EuroNation ordered right before you did. He describes what he did in this thread. Although the rebel reflector opening in the bottom could be cut to fit the heatsink pedestal with a 14mm led pcb instead of grinding down the pedestal to use a 12.8mm led pcb.

This sounds interesting. Would this be better on 32650s?

Just found another D mag. Was thinking of a Malkoff. Maybe aspheric. Opinions? Any chance of a higher output one anytime soon?

What is the best P60 sized host/drop in? Decent throw/moderate spill, high output, 18650 or RCR123

2 li-ion 32650's in a 2D mag will also work with tailcap modification. I really dont know if four will work in a 4D mag because the are a bit longer than a alkaline D. With a custom tail cap I know it could work. You would need a driver with a higher input voltage.
4 D Nimh's would be easier. Should also still work with alkalines but only at a very reduced output.
