Weren´t this things supposed to be indestructible ?!

I have a turkoise P2 on my keychain and was at the local mall with my wife, I was on the second floor and my wife was on the first floor, she asked me to throw her the keys, I did and as always she didn´t caught them, they struck on the floor hard, I´ve thrown them other times before and nothing happened, but this time the led broke almost in half, it has a very nasty perpendicular rupture and the beam ( Still works ! can you believe)is split into 2 different patterns.

Well now that it´s F...ed up is there a way to fix it somehow instead of buying another one ? Read somewhere that I can polish the led, Is there a right way to do this ?

Thanks!

How about just purchasing another LED. This has been asked many times on the photon site and they are willing to send you any part or piece of it. You'll just have to bend the wires right.
Next time toss her something larger and less important, like the car itself.

LOL, good one.

You might be able to order one straight from www.nichia.com ... I read somewhere on the site they are sold individully (probably have to phone), but if you want the exact one you better ask Craig what the part# is

I wouldn`t buy direct from Nichia since I believe they charge about $8-9 each plus shipping, for small quantities. LRI would be your best bet- they can supply the correct one you will need- gold plated leads without those stoppers on too I expect- and I think they are about $6- not too cheap but it saves a lot of fuss. You will still need to form the leads into the correct shape though which is a bit tricky. Ask nicely and who knows- they possibly will supply you a pre-formed one?

This is the best way to go.
Nichia charges $8 plus another $8.25 for shipping... might as well buy a new Photon for that kind of money.
Go to LRI or e-mail them for a replacement... and yes, I believe if you ask nicely, you might get the leads pre-formed.

Don't throw that old LED out... you now have a nice turquoise LED to use in something else, perhaps as a nightlight or an accent light somewhere where the beam profile doesn't matter as much as it might in a flashlight.

A cool thing to do is take a 2 D cell holder and attach a white LED to it. It will lite with a nice glow and last practly forever. I get about 3mA on an old wide white from a Photon. It is just a bit dimmer than an infinity but should last about a year on all the time
