And dont know where to start or who sells them. I want one that the beam will dissapear into the night sky, kind of like it goes on forever, and shows up in the daytime, maybe even pops a baloon:D

Where do I start, and what is the minimun wattage for a butt kickin laser? Something under 300 dollars would be nice. Thanks

Here is a link to a real A** Kicking laser. I believe the beam is IR and not visible to the human eye, but it sure kicks A**:grin2:

Wicked lasers are too overpriced for what they really are, I'd look at dragon lasers or Novalasers. If these are out of your price range then look at dealextreme.com.....

I'd second novalasers, they give you the real avg/max rating of your laser... watch out for cheap lasers without IR filters, they can damage your eyes without you even knowing!

Thanks....so what power should I consider to not be disappointed. Or lets put it this way....what is the smallest I would want to get and not be disappointed? I want to be in awe when I use it at night....but dont need to set stuff on fire.

Since you don't want to burn anything and just want a nice beam at night, I'd say go for either a 35mW or 55mW Viper laser pointer from www.dragonlasers.com

I would not go above this power level unless you really need a long range super bright laser or you want to burn things.

Is there a big visual difference between a true 5mw pointer and say a 35 or a 55 mw unit? Is it worth the effort to get a 35 or 55? Thanks

True power just means the laser is 5mW instead of being up to 5mW. The good quality high power laser pointers on the market such as the viper series will have an advertised power level that is the minimum average power level.

So there will be a BIG difference in the brightness/visibility of a 55mW Viper over a 5mW. In my opinion, if you are serious about getting a good quality laser with a very visible beam, it is worth the effort to get a 35 or 55mW.

Thanks Luvlasers. I just ordered a 55 mw Viper.....then I was wondering if Dragon Lasers were involved in the earthquake over there:sick2: I hope not....for their sake, not my little order I placed with them. But It just crossed my mind.

Also is it legal to have this laser in the US....that just crossed my mind too?

Members of the public in the United States can own *ANY* power laser; though you will need to complete a form called a "variance" if you intend to use any laser exceeding 5mW outdoors day or night - beyond a one-time test anyway.

If the laser is used outdoors, do not aim it into the sky, any inhabited structures, any vehicles (ground-based like cars, trucks, busses, etc. or air-based like helicopters, airplanes, jets, etc.) and for Pete sakes (and for chrissakes and for heaven sakes and for your sakes too) do not under any circumstances shine it at a person. If you shine it at a person in the dark and he or she turns out to be a police officer, he/she may think they're being targeted, unholster (pull out) their gun, and hose you down with it.

and if you are still alive after all that, they'll patch you up, make you pay for medical costs then put you in jail for a long time.:thumbsdow

Can you not use one for star pointing in the States? That's pretty poopy...
It is acceptable to use lasers of CDRH Class IIIa (4.999mW and lower) for "star pointing" in the United States, but at higher powers you need to file a variance (see above post) with the government in order to do it legally.

So what does everybody who buys these high power pointers do with them? I sure dont want to go to jail for playing with my pointer in my yard. I should have just bought a 5mw unit......or stuck with flashlights!!

I wonder if this thing will go through customs and get picked up and the FBI shows up at my front door:thinking:

Interesting......I got banned from the Laser Community Forum...which is hosted by Wicked Lasers I think, for asking if I was allowed to own this thing in the USA. I dont want my new Laser anymore:shakehead
