Ok, first off I have NO experience. None. But I want to try to build my first light. I think that this being my first time, I should follow the K.I.S.S. formula. I want to do this so as to learn exactly what is involved. I'm hopeing someone will either, 1. Take me under their wing and guide me through it here in this thread. Or 2. Point me to a thread that has a very simple set of step by step instructions. or 3. Suggest a book (flashlight building for dummies) My concern with option two is that sometimes the "little details" that are considered "common sense" are left out by someone who has built hundreds of lights. I think this being my first attempt I should try to keep the cost low. Is there someone out there who wants to help a noob out? Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated. T.I.A.

I don't really know where to start since I don't have any idea what you're looking to build, but you're welcome to PM me with questions along the way as you start researching and building.

Check www.bikeled.org for starters.

Thank you thank you thank you. I'm sorry I didn't specify what I wanted to build. I'm looking for something alot or maybe even exactly like what that gent did with the alu. tubing. I'm looking for very small, very bright, some what light weight lighting. I was thinking I could put the battery in my water bottle holder.

This is my simple design (the lower one in the picture):

It is a reworked flashlight.

The battery in my case is mounted under the luggage rack, but you could combine it with a battery in your water bottle holder :)

Those off-road driving light look realy bright the 6 inch 6 P7 or MCe one sure will push out the light but I think it's a bit big for a bike and I hate to think of the cost... The beamshots for the 24 emmiter light are impresive...

Actually,
The solstice S1100 series looks like it might work really well for a plug-in sort of light. 2" on a side, IP68 sealing, robust case?

I don't know anything about the emitter, but other threads comnpare it to the p7's. With a 750Ma draw, and 9-50v input voltage, that might work very well if the optic is decent at all. It ought to have about the same power requirements as an MC-E or P7.

That's the one I was thinking about. A two inch cube.
