Which is better? They both cost $30.Add $10 to get a Mag or Brinkmann and thats $40. X5-T is $42 shipped from a member on here. So, help me out.

The MADMAX is brighter, for sure. And it runs on cheap or even rechargeable AA's rather than 123's. I have two and love them. However, X5T is certainly more rugged and probably more reliable, has better run time, and is more compact (than the Legends housing my MADMAXES, anyway, think I'll try minimag next). And the X5T carries a warranty, I presume. Plus it doesn't get hot, which is a good thing if you ever have to hand it to a non-flashaholic

Having said all that, I have two MADMAX'es and zero X5T's, so that would be my vote.

If absolute brightness isn't your goal, but consistent brightness over the life of the batteries, get the BadBoy.

I have both the MadMax and the newer Inova X5-T and the MadMax "sammich" is brighter. Mine is housed in a pewter finish MiniMag and is definitely blindingly bright. The X5 on the other hand uses expensive CR123 batteries. My X5 is definitely a conversation piece as everyone with whom I come in contact with says "What's that?". I then withdraw it from holser and let them oogle. If ultimately, brightness is your goal, along with cheaper batteries and yes it is still blazing on NiMh rechargeables, I'd go with MadMax. Only caveat right now is that you will have to wait until Wayne returns from vacation.

MADMAX? How come this is the first I'm hearing about this product. Tell me more. Point me in the right direction.

I'm new to the forum, but Dat2Zip, creator of the Madmax and Badboy, was recommended to me. While I have several conversions, I have no conversion experience of my own. I bought a Madmax on "blind faith", assuming it would be easy to install into a Mini-Mag. It was! I followed Wayne Y.'s (Dat2zip) directions, and no problem! Very bright, and very white. Maybe Saaby can give you a link, or check the Buy/Sell/Trade section on the forum. It should be near the top. I definitely want more. Don't know about the others, but your Mini-mags will never be the same.
edit- One of the vets beat me to the posting. Well, you can always count on them.

I have 3 Mini-Mags one is junk. Threads on the reflector ring are all fouled up. I ordered the BadBoy, but now I see that I might have to get the MadMax. Problem is I have gobs of bulbs for these lights and rarely use them. Oh well, I guess those are the problems of being a Flashaholic or a LED maniac.

I haven't tried an Ill pill because they are gone as soon as they are released. I got a Madmax, though, and I can't praise it enough. It convinced me to go ahead and order the Badboy as well. I received it last night and it is very close in brightness to the madmax. Both are brighter than the x5t. The x5t is waterproof and appears bombproof, but it isn't regulated and uses 123 batteries.

Another plus for the mods is that I can install them in old maglights and leave them out without my wife asking "and what is this, ANOTHER flashlight?"

I will get both the MadMax and BadBoy, but I won't be getting rid of my my Inovas; they have some features that I really value.

Form factor: Tiny, light, slim

Brightness: Not as bright as the Luxeons but still very bright

Runtime: A solid 5+ hours. Though unregulated, Brock's chart reveals that after 3 hours it is down only 7% from original brightness. This is remarkable performance.

On-off: With its bezel encircled by a thin strip of skateboard tape and counter-rotated to near-on position, the Inova "Classic" becomes significantly more convenient for general purpose nighttime use than the X5-T or most other "tactically" triggered lights. I speak from experience, having recently tested them both along with many other lights last week in rural Canada. I also noticed that the claimed 15% brightness advantage of the X5-T resulted in a fractional increase in real life.

That said, I eagerly look forward to purchasing Wayne's creations when he returns.
