I put together an ILL-PILL from lambda and built it with a 1W Lux HD Blue with Fraen LP (lambda had actually suggested to use LD with NX05). It's plenty bright. What surprised me is that it gives out a rectangular hotspot. Since this is basically my first mod, I'd like to know if the Blue Lux is supposed to give out a rectangular hotspot.
This is somewhat puzzling because I've tried Fraen, NX05 and the stock MiniMag reflector, none seemed to be able to get rid of the rectangular hotspot. Does someone know what's going on?

untwist the head untill it becomes circular; thats what I do? I have a HD white and its runing fine, in fact it is more focused than the LD Cyan I'm using..But I have to twist it a bit farther out to focus it.

hm... yeah, I could do that, but I lose the hotspot altogether and the light becomes really weak. I couldn't make a square hotspot to show up on my other lux lights even if I wanted to. Odd.

You're seeing the LED die image projected by the lens. HD Luxeons need a reflector to get rid of the 'square spot'.

You don't see it with the white LD Luxeon because of how the phosphor is applied; it leaves a round coating that lights up. The HD Luxeons however are square dies, and that's the image they project.

I'm gonna have to find another reflector to try it. Thanks for the info lambda.
