Impossible D battery?

Is this thing for real http://www.batteries.com/productprofile.asp?appid=368604? If it really puts out 16500 mah then two of these in a 2D Maglite with a ROP Hi bulb would last 5 hours:twothumbs!!! Or a low for 11 hours:D! This can't be possible:confused::caution:, if it was then you could make a 2D Maglite with nearly 4 times the out put of a 6D Maglite for 1 hour longer then it could run:faint:!! This is crazy. Perhaps they messed up with the Ah rating or something:mecry:. Were do you get a charger for this thing:naughty:?
 
A charger? You don't. They are not rechargeable....


16.5Ah is about average for an alkaline D cell

Yes lctorana 16.5 Ah is the normal Ah for an alkaline except Alkalines don't make 3.6 volts:twothumbs! And it's got a one year replacement warranty while producing 3.6 volts that's the same as most Li-ion batteries while simple Lithium chemistry normally produces 3 volts. in fact it's a Li-SOCl2 "what ever that is". So I would assume it's rechargeable. If not that is one of the most expensive primaries ever and no company could afford using and throwing away $20 every time one of these things went dead:crackup:.

Indeed. Lithium thionyl chloride cells are designed to be installed in remote inaccessible places, where they will run for years without maintenance while providing very low currents (0-3 mA typically). For those kinds of application the cost is reasonable.
 
And those are not even rated for high current draw. Highest spec is somewhere around 100 ma if I recall.
 
Yuck:green::sick2:! That sucks! So I figured worse case they would give you the ability to make some sort of super ROP 2D. Well if you had a lot of money, but if their max discharge rate is that low well I guess I found nothing special…..Oh crap! This destroys my hops and dreams about having a 8 D 250 watt par36 light that would run for 2 hours! Well this puts a damper on things:banghead::sigh::mecry:.

You now it's funny how things turned out in the order they did, I always wanted to start from the top. Well I didn't figure I actually more or less would. With almost no experience when I first found CPF I slapped together my 150 watt hotwire "because the bulb runs at extreme efficacy for reduced life 15 hr. vs. 50" with a free gel cell SLA and I made a 4200 lumen monster that will happily run for over an hour straight! With all my researching I keep getting new and better ideas that all cost more money and they keep getting stomped by this first attempted light. Now I can't even build that 250 watt 8D light. Let alone my cheap 1000 watt GE bulb light can't even stomp the original super light. I should be thankful that I lucked out so well with it at all:sssh:. If not I really wouldn't have much to show for all my work:D.
 
Hi Juggernaut - I've made the mistake often of not reading labels carefully.
Like buying sugarless waffle syrup! yuck...
The do not recharge words are visible on the pic of the D cell lithium..barely.
Goodluck on the flashlight project. Many of us have ideas that are not possible
yet. I'm waiting a while until new & improved batteries come out for a few of my
more radical ones.

As others suggest, these lithium primary cells are not really suited to flashlights owing to the high price and limited discharge current.

They can however be used if cost is secondary and a long, reliable shelf life more important.
Two of the above cells in a 2D maglight with an everled, would give a storage life of about ten years, and 100 hours use after storage.
They also withstand extremes of temperature better than other types.

One of the main uses of these cells is for electronic gas and water meters. a single cell powers the electronics for many years, reliably and possibly in extreme temperatures.
