I really like my cateye ld1100 rear light. Good runtimes, very bright and feels kinda solid. I like being able to leave one row on steady and the other flashing.
My only beef is the beam is very directional. Took quite a bit of adjusting to get it pointing straight down the road.
Good viz to whatever is directly behind me... but I wish it was wider.

Solution is very simple and very effective. A layer of glad "press'n seal" over one row of LEDs.
Beam is now very smooth and significantly wider.

And here it is with both rows turned on.

Yes its good, similar brightness to the LD1100, it has the same problem though, being very directional. It would benefit from the press'n seal too. The LD1100 has the advantage that you can keep one row uncovered, you still get a very bright spot but better visibility when not directly in front of a car.
I don't think there's very much chance of any of these lights being missed when they are shinning directly at a car, but all round visibility helps. I'm thinking intersections and merging lanes when a driver isn't coming from directly behind.

Has anybody tried the Blackburn Mars 3.0? Ran it all winter on the same set of alkies (2AAA) and its just as bright as new (which is quite bright). Great spill and side LED's in a tight, compact, screwed together package!
