I have a E2D executive incandescent. Since LEDs have come out I no longer use it and do not care for incandescent flashlights. What do you guys think I should do with it?
I can put it on the bay and auction it off or is there a LED modification (drop in) available. I know when I called SF years ago they said a LED head was not available for that light.

If it were my light I would get a Malkoff E2/Scout head - the one for 2xCR123 (Gene makes very similar heads for other cell configurations) - and replace your incandescent head with that. The bezel of this head extends out from the one a bit, but ther are no crenelations, which in my opinion makes the light at least equally useful for its intended purposes.

You also may be able to find a custom maker on the CPF Marketplace website who can make an LED dropin for you. Keep in mind that you would then be using an LED with a reflector designed for an incandescent bulb, which will provide a very floody beam with reduced throw.

TrapperXX,
You might find that a few years down the road, you may wish to experiment some more with incandescent lamps and rechargeable cells, and it may be more difficult and costly to replace it then. E2x lights are going up in price on the market. I am currently going through such a phase of playing with some E-series incans, and am enjoying several different set-ups now. Lumens Factory has expressed a commitment to producing lamps for Surefire lights for quite some time into the future, and if you can ever snag a discontinued Fivemega bi-pin holder for the E series, that provides you with the ability to use Streamlight Strion or TL-3 bulbs, depending on what kind of rechargeable configuration you have. I have an E2D that did not originally fit an AW 17670 cell, but I was able to crudely hog out the last 1/3 of the interior with a Dremel tool, so now I can run an LF EO-E1R on 1xAW17670. I would agree with BillSWPA's advice to get the Malkoff head, and keep the E2D bezel.

You can use one of Tana's LED drop in's in your E2D. He has XPG and Nichia 219 versions. I have a couple of them and owning them motivated me to make my own. He has single as well as multi mode should you want something more. Excellent quality too!

Another vote for a Tana drop in. Let's you keep the original light as is and it's a great build and beam. Also allows you to use 17670 cells for added runtime and the advantages of rechargeables.

Thank you boys. I will research those heads and go that way. I actually have two of them, just one is MIA right this second but we should be able to find it.

MBentz, I don't want to keep it stock as I hate when the bulbs burn out. (and the cost to replace). Compared to LED lights that are out now, it seems pointless to run an incandescent. (just my opinion)
I have lumen s covered. My latest are an M6LT, 500 lumen E2D for my wife, and EB1 Backup. I will get another E2D/500 for my daughter.
I am a Surefire fan-boy.

Why not just get a VME bezel and (for example) a Malkoff M361 ?

Then, you would always be able return it back to stock with the original bezel & lamp, too :)

The SureFire KX2C would be another option, if you would rather keep all of the parts by SureFire ....

How much are you willing to spend on an upgrade to LED? There are lots of good options if you have the dough.

Tana's SingLED is a great option that drops in, keeping everything stock. The Malkoff E2 head is an excellent choice, but is single mode and you lose the small, crenelated bezel. The Surefire KX2C is also an excellent option, and my favorite (because it keeps the light all Surefire), but it's going to cost you more than either of the options above. Tana's TripLED would retain the stock body/bezel, and be wicked bright, but you'd need to upgrade the tail switch due to the increase in current drawn from the new LED cluster.

Here's another idea: check out lumens factory for more available, less expensive bulbs. You can get a 6v bulb for $13, or if you want to invest in RCR123s and a charger, you can get a 7.2v bulb for $14 and not worry about burning through your CR123 batteries.

I didn't know that was available. (KX2C) I looked it up and like that. I will most likely go that way. I am not into modifications really, I just want reliable light and I tend to be brand loyal unless given a reason not to be.
Yeah, thats what i'm gonna do, thanks Sir!

thanks and I am going to buy the Surefire as you also mentioned. I'd rather keep it in the family and not modify more than I have to. Thanks everyone for the reply's.

How much is the KX2C? If the prices are similar, you may just want to buy another E2D. Two > one. :)

Edit- They appear to be a little over $100. I think you could find a gently used E2D with 200 lumens for that price.

Agreed - I see E2DL 200/5 lumen versions all the time for about the same cost as a KX2C head. I'd buy the E2DL and either sell the body and tailcap, or sell your E2D altogether. Unless you only want a single mode light, if that's the case then the KX2C is what you need.

Surefire E2D - What to do with it?

Thread Merge - Norm

I've got an old Surefire E2D Defender that is need of a bulb. Are there any options other than a $25 Surefire replacement lamp? Is it worth messing with upgrading this thing?

Thanks for your time.

Re: Surefire E2D - What to do with it?

I read through the thread but didn't find any ideas on sourcing a cheaper incan bulb, which is really what I'd like to do. I don't want to spend more than $20 on this thing.
