Individually sold 123\'s=higher quality?

I have a question. I am not so sure if this is true, so I am asking it. Is it possible that the individually sold batteries like the kinds from Duracell, Energizer, etc. have higher quality than the kinds we buy offline? Like the SF, Batterystation, Titanium, etc.? I mean, these manufacturers, and or distributors cant really make a profit by selling their batteries at such a low price unless they use cheaper materials to make these products. Is it just a coincidence that my single cell light gets almost a 30 minute extended runtime off a Energizer Photo battery?

Mags, check SilverFox's 123 Battery Shoot Out.

In general there are two ways to make money off a product:
1. You sell very few at a high price.
2. You sell a lot at a lower price.
Again, this is a very general concept, but might help you understand how we get top-quality cells from BatteryStation (for example) at a low price.

Batterystation/SF also sell direct. No middleman, no distributor. They buy direct from the manufacturer and from there it is direct to us.

That having been said some folks are more comfortable with the name brands, but ever since that 123 battery shootout, SF/Batterystation ARE our name brands, at least here on CPF /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Individually sold 123\'s=higher quality?

In a direct comparison using duracell,Energizer, and batt station, i got very close results with all. using SF led and incan light's both, the energizer seemed to go first, and in one case went a few min's longer, and after that the BS and duracell both swapped "died first" honor's back and forth. So all in all the BS cell's lasted a few min's longer a few times, and a few min's shorter a few times then the name brands. Which tell me it had to be just component variables.
I also used a 123 branded "universal" I got from a local LEO outfitter for 2$. these also fit pretty much in the middle, they died a 10-15 min's before the BS, and name brands.

I really think at least in the case of these three, there is no reason to spend the money on the the "name" brand. The 123 shootout really show's this. VDG
