What is supposed to be the initial voltage of a new lithium AA battery (eg. Energizer)

I have two Energizer Ultimate Lithiums, and they have a reading of 1.70 volts... which seems quite high.

Conclusion: Maybe the batteries I have are not quite "new". I found them in a box, and they didn't seem to be used (based on the fact it was just left in a box, and the voltage was not low)

all the fresh new ones i have tested come in between 1.80-1.76, havent seen a new one below 1.76 out of 50+ items.

+1.7VDC is a good nominal "no load"/open circuit value.

this is why, in some applications, use of Li Primary cells is not recommended or at least to be discouraged. Put, let's say, three of them in series and some electronics (particularly, but NOT limited to, unregulated designs) may "see" too high a voltage and run too hot (best case) or "fry"/release-the-magic-smoke (worst case).

like in one of those un-regulated unresistered 3xAAA direct drive LED lights. that burn really bright with lithium AAAs in them , , , for a while.
oops.

Brand new always 1.81v for me.

1.7v means it's been used or old ...

some reason all of the energizer L91/92's I've used all measured 1.6-1.7V, rarely does any of them hit 1.8OCV...maybe its just the analog meter:whistle:
Maybe your meter is a bit out of calibration? I read 1.80, 1.81 and 1.80 on three different DVMs, and I read 1.75 on my (very old) AVM.
