Got a flaky Inova X1 at Target, and I seem to know why it's flaky now. It appears that the + contact was pushed into the piston too far somehow; shelf damage indicates that someone probably cranked down the tailcap waaaay too hard; the tail of the battery is dented, as is the tailcap. So I put the battery in backwards, thinking that with no electrical contact at the other hand, it can't do any damage - maybe I'll put some mechanical pressure on the piston, which will flatten it out.

And then it pukes its guts out onto the living room floor.

And most people have to freezepop to get this far.

So now what?

I'll take pictures so you out there considering this can look at what's inside.

Post some pics of the carnage, maybe it can be repaired. Not sure if the Inova warranty covers for batteries that are inserted backwards.

Technical Information

back of the board is labeled:
EEC011 REV 2.0

High-resolution pictures are being uploaded to my web gallery and can be downloaded at full, native resolution.

Pictures!

The battery was used as a mechanical ... um, stick. I have since started using a pen as a tool, but either will push the bezel + guts out.

There's odd splash-looking marks on the gold contact on the back of the board, that normally makes contact with the piston spring. Maybe someone tried to freezepop this thing before I bought it, then returned it in mostly-intact packaging? I didn't have to cut open the blister-pack on this - the ultrasound welding was rather incomplete.

When I reassemble it with a battery in place, I get light during the process - until the bezel goes *k-lick* into place. Is the glue what's keeping the connection from working?
