Like a lot of you guys, I am loving this light and finding it may well be my most used light. Also like some folks, I have found that the slickness of the head could be improved. Here is what I am doing to mine. I ride bikes(the leg powered kind)and have taken an old tube from my road bike(because these are the real skinny tires)and taken a piece of the tube to stretch over the head. It fits real snug, and allows for a greater purchase of the head, without taken up any more room or adding to size of the head. One tube should do about a hundred X5's

. I will try to get a pic when I get a chance and show that it doesn't look to bad either, not to mention very replaceable if it gets cut or torn. Just thought I would share the info. Oh yea, I realize that most don't share in my recreation of cycling, and you will find that a tube as I am describing can be picked up a local bike shop, probably for free, assuming it is one that has been replaced.

Wampuscat,

I have used velcro for the same purpose, but your idea sounds interesting. Looking forward to those pics.

What size tube did you use? This sounds like a good way to protect the entire light for handling dirty jobs..

I have used a 700x23 and found it to work fine, but a 700x19(skinnier)would work well on the head, but might be a little tough to get on the body. I tuck it inside out before I work it over the light. This seems to grab the light better and looks better, too. The chalky stuff that is on the inside of these inner tubes is now on the outside and can be washed off with water to give the light a nice appropriate tackyness with all the seams of the tube on the inside. One hand operation is now more confident. The wife took the camera with her to work, but I will try to post pics within the next day.

Thanks, I'll try out one of each size.. I can always use the rest to slip over the chains that hold my pickup tailgate to keep them from rattling.

I carry this size light in my front pocket so when I saw that the X5 scratched real easy - I whipped out some heat shrink an turned my titanium X5 into a black X5.

I did remove the batteries and was concerned about the heat ruining the light but - lucky for me it turned out ok.

Brightnorm,

I can't seem to figure out how to get the pic posted, but will be happy to email to any interested or to one who can post the pic.

Thanks Phil,

Eventually you'll figure out how to do it.
I almost never have a problem with it except for when my hands are unusually dry.

Black Bart,

That seemed to work great! Thanks, and my apologies for my clumseyness with this matter. I may have to email you and get you to walk me through this though. Obviously, I am still trying to learn about the computer and the internet. I appreciate your help, and I hope the pic of the X5 helps some of those who were interested. Thanks again,

Phil
