Yes the X5 is good. Do I carry it daily, no! The 123 batteries put me off as they are very expensive, here in South Africa anyway. Also, it is sold as a flood light which it does very well, I prefer something with more throw. I have the LS second with AA battery tube in my pocket. I guess not everyone will be fortunate enough to have both but these are my preferences.
For AA and AAA batteries, besides the ARC AAA which uses one battery I really like my Princeton Tech attitude, 4xAAA's driving 3 leds, really light and compact. They also have the Impact with 1 LED with lens and AA batteries but I dont like it as much. A nicer bet for AA's is a AA mini-mag with the Opalec conversion, fit a tail cap switch also and you have a great package with about 10 hours of well regulated light.

Good luck with your choice.

I seen the conversion for the AA mini-mag with the Opalec conversion, but for $27 plus shipping? Spend a little more get a new light. But anyways how that conversion on the AA mag light, bright? Also how long does the battery life on the Inova? There is a new one out with a activation button on the bottom.

Is it any good? I'm new at this doing a search and there is many LED flashlights out there, but seen the X5 and made me interested in purchasing one. How the battery life? I noticed it uses a Lithium battery CR123A. Is these battery expensive?

I also wanted to know which LED flashlights are the best with AA or AAA batterys for about $50.

If I knew where I put the darned thing, I'd measure it on the spot. But I'd guess it comes in somewhere between 50,000 and 80,000mcd with brand spanking new batteries.

Regarding your question about the output of the Inova X-5, here is a link: Brock's Runtime Tests .

Brock was kind enough to post these measurements that show brightness and runtime of various lights including a X-5, an Opalec NewBeam and an Arc-LS (using all the various battery packs).

Hope this helps you,
Pat

If you were to choose between the two Arc LS or the Inova X5. Which one?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If you can affort a LS first, definitely get a LS. Comparing to the X5, it's smaller, brighter, throws a lot further, cheaper to operates (even with 123 cell), and more well made. I have both a SLS and a X5T, the only thing the X5 do better is beam quality. But that's only because mine is a second.

Turbo6,

If you only have $50 to spend, and prefer to use AA's over 123's, you should seriously consider one of dat2zip's MADMAX or BADBOY pills in a Mini Mag or Legend. Way brighter than either Arc LS or X5, and within your budget, while the LS is not, and the X5 has no AA option.

I carry an LS with 123, but what I LIKE to use is the MADMAX in a Legend 2-AA.

You asked about the price of 123's. They can be found mail order for around $2 each, in quantities of 20pc+. At your local store, you might pay $6-10 EACH. Ouch.
