Inova X5, red led, 1 Battery, WHY?!?!

I just got my Inova X5, with the RED leds. it only uses ONE 123a battery. Inside the package, there are instructions which say, "123a X 2, except RED, and IR X5, which use ONE 123a"

Why does the red and infa red X5 only need one battery?

They don't need as much voltage as other colors.

Is there a spacer provided for the extra cell?

The section of the light containing the LED's is longer and extends into the space otherwise occupied by the second cell.
