Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Sorry, I have no idea about lumens...... I can send it to whoever wants to check the lumens.

Would dedicating this light as a dedicated passaround be worth it. (enough people interested in trying it out)

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Why are so many folks concerned over the Lumen output of the X0? Lumen is what you would want to use if your light source is a candle....putting the light in what is called a 4 pi geometry. The X0 has a fairly tight beam and that is what candle power and Lux is used for.....measuring the brightest part of a BEAM of light.

Since I got my light meter adapter, all of my runtime plots have been measured in the brightest part of the beam .....candle power at one foot. For runtime plots the brightness of the light is NOT important. The important variable is TIME....how LONG it takes the light being generated to change. I put the detector in the brightest part of the beam so different lights can be compaired.

Candle power and LUX are easy to measure with calibrated instruments that are not all that expensive. Lumen on the other hand, is a slipery measurment to grab and requires some very expensive equipment to make the measurment.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Good point there, Roy.
Normally, I just take the default lumen output for a luxeon 1W that Lumileds specify.
Lux on the other hand is more important since I won't be using the light as a candle anyway /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Thanks roy. I am just trying to decide which of the new Inova lights will best fit me. I appreciate the information about Lumens and Lux, I am still a newbie so this was very helpfull.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Tested lumen would tell if the light was running correctly (at spec.) as the first one I picked up wasn't. I have backed into a lumen reading of 30 for my present one using a light meter and two rulers. This is close enough to the rated that I'm convinced this one is running properly. I've written about this method on two other threads. Of course a Lux reading would serve this purpose if you know what it is suppose to be.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

I am having a hard time trying to wait til someone besides Discovery store has the X0. To further complicate my decision I have started giving serious thought to the T1 and T3. Anybody have thoughts on the pros and cons of these three lights?

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

My advice is to get all three! ;-) Heck, I'm waiting on Coast's new Luxeons, too. They look quite impressive.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Great runtime plot, Roy. Now I have a general idea of how long full brightness will last. Also, I noticed your light measure of 120 candlepower at 1ft. Just for the hell of it . I plugged in your readings into some math converision software called versaverter 3. under it's illumination tab, foot candle to lux. "120ftc=1291.669 lux." I believe a sl tl-2 led had a lux reading of 1100 at beam ctr. so, "1100 lux= 102.193 ftc. ?", or an sf L4 - "580 lux at beam ctr.= 53.883 ftc." does this look correct.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Also, regarding the xo lumen question. I noticed on the back of the inova packaging, in the fine print. It states "* LED lumen output may vary." when I picked up the xo in store . I made sure that the one I picked was best and the brightest out of their delivery order, not the 4 that had been displayed at the register. where people had been playing with them for days.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

1 footcandle (lumen per square foot) = 10.76391 lux (lumen per square meter)

This is is rounded to 5 decimal places. Typically only two are used (10.76).

The first one I got was out of the box, cells checked as good, but half as bright as it's replacement.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

What everyone says about Lux and Cp is true.

But this is also true.....one foot candle measured at one foot from the light source is equivlant to one LUX measured at one meter from the light source. I measure all my lights at one foot so they will also be equivalent to one LUX and one meter. Reason?....my light meter is calibrated in Foot candles and NOT lux.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Hi cpf crew,
I'm sure Inova sent out a few bad examples, rushing their 1st production run out to the public...Roy, I was wondering about the xo's performance. What's your overall opinion of this light after testing. Also, I have sent a customer inquiry to Inova regarding the release date of the T-3. I'll see if they answer.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

I can't seem to find any information on whether or not it is waterproof, and if so to what depth. Anyone know?

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Wow, I just rec'd. an e mail this morning from inova customer service!!! they sent me a pdf. brochure t-series !!! Here's a copy of the EMAIL...

Dear Mr. Walker

Thank you for your continued support of Inova products, we are pleased to hear that you are a satisfied customer. The XO is in full production and we anticipate the T-1 and T-3 to begin shipping as early as the first week of May.

Please feel free to contact us in the future, I have attached for your reference the preliminary specs of the T- Series.

Thank you

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

Anyone know how to post a pdf. file? I just looked over the
t-series specs list. looks pretty interesting. Also, Hi catman 10,the Xo packaging says "water resistant." I believe there was something specific in the inova instructions. when I find where put the booklet. I'll post it.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

I am not sure how posting PDF is handled here, but there is alway cut and paste with the text. Thanks for looking into it groutboy.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

You'll need to upload the pdf file to a web server and post the link. If you don't have acces to a server, you could mail me the pdf and I'll upload it.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

If a .pdf is hosted somewhere the easiest is to either post a link to the page like the Inova data sheet that contains the link, or the link itself preferrably warning everyone its (XO manual in .pdf). This BBS says you can attach a file but I'm, so far, not seeing a place to do that. I think this feature is turned off. If you can find someplace to host the file then post the link to it.

Re: Inova X0 Runtime Plot

I downloaded the pdf. from my yahoo account as a file attachment. If anyone wants it, just pm me. I'll try sending for others to view and comment on...
