How does the M3X weaponlight stackup against any of Surefires 2 cell(weaponlights).light is to be mounted on a AR-15 and a shotgun. My requirements are that it must throw effectively out to at least 50 yards for target indentification in total darkness. Shock isolated, and waterproof. How does each beam pattern compare -- Hot spots, spill ect. Run time and total lumen output as well. Although a 3 cell would definately be better for greater distances, I prefer the size and weight of the 2 cells only.Thanks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif

On a few forums that are focused more on firearms rather than lights, I've heard a lot of complaints about Insights lights. No experience myself.

I realize that this post is probably more suited to gun related forums, but the specifics concerning beam pattern, quality, throw and output is in the area that you guys take more interest in. This area of the light output is not generally disected into detail in those forums. -- John. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif

I had a 2 cell M3 for a while. Its output and throw wasent quite as good as my 6P.
Also, I believe their lights are not shock isolated like Surefires. My M3 was also far from being water resistant as the tail piece had no o-ring or any other means for sealing.

Welcome to CPF!

You may like to post your question on the Strategos Int discussion board if you have not done so already.

I've seen the M3X at the SHOT Show and it is better than the M-3 in that although it still feels cheap, it appears to be better constructed. It's output was not SureFire quality but it was bright and brighter than the M-3. This could have a lot to do with the larger reflector though (similar to the difference between the 9P and M3).

I've yet to read a review of the M3X against a SureFire.
It would be great to have a output / runtime comparison done.

Gotcha. I wasn't discouraging you from asking here, but rather encouraging you to also ask elsewhere. The general gist of what I'd heard is that the things eventually fall apart, so it's kind of a disposable -- "in a thousand rounds (or whatever) plan to get yourself a new one" kind of thing. Hopefully others will answer about the beam.
