I stopped at Harbor Freight last night to kill a little time on my way to shoot IDPA. I found an interesting light. It's a Gordon rechargable flashlight. Light is approximately the size of a 3D mag. Has a power pack which consists of 5 batteries (1/2 Ds?) Labeled as 6v 2200 mAh. Bulb appears to be a HPR50 bulb. Comes with a 12v wall wart & car charger. Bulb uses the normal Gordan bulb method. Has a threaded section at the end of the light w/ an aluminum plate. The head is larger in diameter than a mag. Lens and reflector are plastic. Beam is not readily adjustable, bright in the center w/ artifacts & rings. Not immediately up to flashaholic standards, but seems to be a good, inexpensive, bright light.

Is the reflector plastic or metal?

And you know you're never EVER supposed to talk about guns.

The reflector is plastic. I'm going to try some different bulbs with this, but it seems a pretty good basic 6v rechargeable system for the money.

On the subject of guns, I actually talk about them more than flashlights /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif It might be sacriledge to say it around here, but I'm more of a gun crank /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif than a flashaholic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/faint.gif

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I got into flashlights BECAUSE of weapon mounted surefires.

I want one for my bushmater AR-15.

I am also a member of ar-15.com

whats wrong with firearms?

jhereg,
I know the light you're referring to.
The plastic bulb retainer will limit hot wire mods some what.
I've worked up an adaptor for converting it to 3 watt DD.
I showed it for the first time at the bay area meet last weekend.
Very decent light for $40.00 finished with the Lux III of choice or a bit less using a Lux clone.

I thought you were, but it seemed to deserve a serious answer. It's pretty funny, most of my friends are gun nuts, so they think flashaholics are a little wierd. On the other hand, they always come to me when they have a flashlight question.

Ahh, ok, cool.

You have some very nice toys. I like the RRA AR. But i am kinda partial to ARs to begin with.

No one understands my flashlight fascination either.... until it is dark and they are with me and say... "ummm, do you have an extra one like that for me?"

Nice collection!

I had a Colt Match HBAR, but I sold it before going to Saudi Arabia in '96. One of the dumbest things I've ever done.

Not to bring this thread back up, but I just noticed that they are on sale for $19 from the regular $29.

Also, does this at least compare to a 4D Maglite with standard batteries and standard bulb? Does it throw about as well? Looks like a pretty big head. And is there any way to readily make it at least a tad brighter - maybe something akin to running a 3 cell bulb on 4 cells?

It's the termanology that's the problem, it's to similar.

Point it over there and light that car up can be embarassing and "lets light each other up" can make for a real bad day for both people.

That's a fine collection. 1911, 686, RRA, Mausers; all of my favorites /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
No Garands, no 03's, 03A3's? Oh well, nice collection!

Sorry to keep wandering away from the thread. cratz2, it looks like your Enfield in pictures 159-160 (no 4 Mk 1?) has the 2 groove barrel. Does that shoot OK for you, or do you find it not as accurate as the 4 grooved barrels? Especially as yours appears nice and shiny.

MY 2 grove Evfield No 4 Mk1 shoots VERY good. From what I have read some of them shoot better than the 4 groove.

Especially with cast lead reloads. The larger grooves grip the bullet better than the narrower ones in the 4 groove barrels.

I made up some LOW power reloads using the 110 grain .32 pistol bullet with a small load of unique. It shot under an inch at 100 yards (peep sights). I can't shoot that good now as I don't shhot as much as I used to.

Sorry to intrude on this one guys, but nothing wrong with being a gun nut, or a flashaholic for that matter. I moved to the UK just over 2 years ago...had to sell my guns, one of which was the MK23 Socom and I still kick myself for that one. One good thing about England though is you can have all the flashlights you want, but then people think you're wierd to even talk about them or to get into sites like this one (personally one of my favorite sites). Be nice if they had a flashlite sight and gun site all in one.

Sorry for the long delay. I never shot that particular one... It was a thorough arsenal rebuild and it was just too pretty to shoot. From posts on the internet, you'd think that the 2 grove guns couldn't hit targets 25 meters away but several of my shooting friends assure me that thy shoot just fine.

Actually I shot the 308 Ishapore (with funky sight and all - soldered on peep sight... have a look) more than any of the actual Enfields I've ever had.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread from the dead since I picked one up about two weeks ago. Sort of a love/hate thing though.

I stopped in my local Harbor Freight for other items and they had these lights marked at $19.95, I believe.

Anyway, it's about the length of a 3D Mag and the head is noticably larger than the Mag. The lens was a bit scratched up, but I wasn't too worried as I figure if this ever gets any serious use, it will probably get banged up from outdoor use and whatnot. It runs on 5 1/2D cells. Threads and O rings were lacking ANY lubrication so I fixed that. The head is removeable and leaves the bulb exposed and it has a flat bottom so candle mode is no problem at all. The bulbs are marked 'HALOGEN 5.5V1A' and the foam around the spare bulb was completely torn across so it doesn't provide a wrap unless you manually wrap it around the bulb and carefully place the wrapped bulb in the spring but the spare bulb did work.

Anyway, I first charged it up using the car carger and tried it out. At first, the only Mag I had to compare it to was a 3D running a 3D Krypton bulb on 4 C cells. Obviously the non-stock Mag was brighter. I didn't do a runtime test, but it seemed to hold up better than I would have guessed given the low price. After use, I put it back on the car charger. Over the next couple days, I charged it up and ran the cell down by using the light about four or five times using the home charger. Eventually comparing it to a stock 3 cell Mag and stock 4 cell Mag, the beam is more artifacty than even a Mag with a stock reflector if you can believe that but I suspect most non-CPF members would be happy with it. The 4D Mag using a 4 cell Krypton bulb is definately brighter and a 3D Mag using a 3 cell Xenon bulb is brighter as well. I started wondering if something was wrong with the Harbor Freight light since I expected it to be at least as bright as a stock 3D Mag.

Anyway, just today, I opened it back up and looked at the cell to see how many mAh the pack was rated: 'Ni-Cd 1/2D2200mAh 6V'. I also noticed some bad signs on the pack... two of the cells have begun to leak. I could look past one of the cells leaking and I would just assume that it was a manufacturing defect, but two cells? Seems to me that either the chargeing system is set wrong, or I overcharged them - I measured them at 8 hours each on the home charger and about 2 hours on the car charger.

Overall, seems like a decent package for an as cheap as possible rechargeable large flashlight as long as your cells don't leak. It's nice to be able to charge the cell while still in the light and it's nice that both car and home chargers are provided, but two cells leaking after less than 10 charges... obviously not acceptable.

Pics to follow.

Poor beam.
