Is anyone still using the NDI as their EDC?

I took out my NDI tonight to play around with it. Besides the CREE halo, I am still loving this light. I think it is still one of the best looking 1 AA flashlights made.

I haven't really EDC it though.

Is there anyone that has been EDCing it or used it a lot in the last couple of years? Has the 'weak' switch given you problems yet? I am just wondering how they are holding up these days.

Hey Centropolis, I have one of the silver NC NDI's and, I have to admit that it has spent more time in the box than as my edc. I find that I use my NC D10 more than any other light now since I find it easier to ramp up / ramp down with one hand instead of having to use both hands to get into the ramping mode. Sadly, I think my NDI will stay where it is for now. Perhaps I should just sell it.

Btw, have you been going out to any of the GTA get-togethers?

Not for me. I have never bothered to EDC the NDI. The tail cap sucks actually because the switch is very sensitive and I wouldn't want it in my pocket. To lock out the switch before placing it in my pocket is too troublesome for me. I prefer the smaller Quark MiNi AA in my pocket for EDC purposes. Also, I hate lights that needed two handed operation to switch modes. I could turn the bezel of the NDI with one hand but it is not easy. I usually develop an aching wrist after changing power modes a few times with one hand. For UI, I think the NDI is not up to it.

It's not the best light to put in your jeans pocket that's for sure. But I think if you have a small holster, it's great.

I went to the last one like almost a month ago now. It was kind of a half-official one. ackbar is planning a big one soon. (Atleast that's what we want him to do.)

I think in the flashlights world, people's tastes do change with time. Before the D10 and the EZAA came out, the NDI was like it for 1xAA flashlight. It was like the "king" for a while.

Not really. At that point of time I do own a few D10 and EX10 and I much preferred the D10 in my pocket than the NDI.

EDIT: Sorry, I misunderstood. You were talking about before the D10. Anyway, I do agree with you on this but I also know that people are asking for more when using the NDI.

Yeah I still remember that 3 or 4 days prior to the released of the D10 and EX10. The threads on them grew by a post a minute. There was so much hype with teaser pics and stuff.

But before the D10, I don't remember too many ones people wanted besides the NDI. There were surely a few of them but I can't remember......maybe I am wrong....

I really like my NDI - especially on 14500. But I only EDC'd it for a short time. It WAS the kind of AA for 5 or 6 months. I got in on the original preorder in December 07 and I also got into the original preorder for the D10 in June of '08. It's STILL quite a nice light. Very well-made. The replacement switches I got for mine were much better than the original.

I EDC the NDI from the day it came out (the very first generation with "strong light" warning), to today, (a GD version). I love the interface and the battery range, the HA is holding up with almost no wear and the switch has had no problem whatsoever.

I use it on High with 14500 80% of the time, and there is always the low when I need it at a twist of the head.

Absolutely love it.

I only wish it had a plain bezel, but oh well, that's more cosmetic than anything else.

Great idea, great UI, but mine kept dying. (refused to go into ramping and was replaced by 4sevens, after Nitecore sent me all orver the place)

Plus, mine had the stupid Strong Light warning

I also EDC an NDI. I use a deep carry pocket clip and hardly know it's there until I need it. Momentary on is great and simple UI means no lost time for me; just High and Low (and Strobe if needed)...

Mine crapped out six ways to Sunday after EDCing for less than three months.

I was seriously disappointed.

I've carried one of those Ultrafire A10s with a LiIon cell as a backup to my new EagleTac and it's given me zero problems after two months.

I won't own another Nitecore product.

I have been EDC'ing mine (GD version) for the past few months, I really like it. It is definitely not the the best functioning light out there, it does flicker a bit when changing levels (typically only use hi). The switch on mine was very finicky when I first received it, it would just shut off by itself. But after cleaning it a few times, it seems to have worked itself out. It is also a bit finicky on which batteries I can use in it, Eneloops seem to work the best.

I EDC mine at work. I changed the switch but it still is acting up.

My NDI Q5 has seen more use over the last couple of years than any of my other lights.

Despite having a house full of lights it's the one I pick up most often and has got some sentimental value now, which is why I never changed it for an R2.

Will be sad to see the NDI go despite the fact it never sold as well as other lights from Nitecore.

I EDC'd mine for almost a year. The first one I received would not consistantly go into program mode or reset itself. The second one I received had the switch go bad. I replaced it with a Jetbeam Pro as my EDC which I have been fairly happy with. My NDI now resides in my guitar case. I must admit though it is still one of my favorite beams.

I use mine every day at work. I've never had a problem with it. Even though it's small enough to pocket, I carry it in a holster. I work outside at night and find that the max mode is usually too much for what I'm doing (looking inside aircraft inspection panels). I've thought about getting a new light. New is always fun, but I haven't been able to find a reason to justify a new light. So to answer your question, I still use it every day.

I used to carry it a lot until I got my AA tactical Quark (especially the titanium one). The only thing better on the NDI is the anodizing which was wonderful.

The first NDI I got had some issues, but was replaced by Nitecore by one that has worked very well (no switch issues on either one)

The NDI is currently in one of the cars along with a box of lithium AAs.
